The memory crisis also hits Apple: launch of the MacBook with OLED display postponed

Apple also has to yield to the memory crisis: the plans for the future update of the Mac lineup have been altered. The future MacBook Pro with a touch display and OLED panel (which according to some rumors might be named MacBook Ultra) has been postponed. The delay is expected to be a few months compared to the previous schedule.

A change of plans for Apple

The future MacBook Pro with OLED display, according to the latest information reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, will not arrive at the end of 2026 but only during 2027 (probably in the first months of the next year, but further delays cannot be ruled out). The project is highly anticipated due to the redesign, featuring the new OLED display and touch panel, in addition to the disappearance of the notch which could be replaced by the Dynamic Island, following what has already been done with the iPhones.

It is worth noting that the new model will also include the M6 Pro/Max chips, manufactured with a 2 nm production process, as well as a new interface for macOS, specifically optimized to make the most of touch commands. As mentioned, a possible rebranding to MacBook Ultra cannot be ruled out.

Delay for the Mac Studio as well

The new generation of Mac Studio is also delayed. In this case, the model (which will have M5 Max and M5 Ultra) will not feature substantial changes, aside from the new chips. The debut, originally scheduled for June/July 2026, has been postponed to October 2026.
