OPPO Find X9 Ultra Review: Is It the Ultimate Camera Phone?
There are products that arrive on the market with the awareness of wanting to change the rules of the game, and then there are those that can really redraw those rules. Well, OPPO Find X9 Ultra belongs to the second category, and after several days of use, we can tell you about it from every angle.
As we know, the history of the Find X Ultra series is an almost manic progression towards photographic perfection. The Find X7 Ultra had introduced the dual periscope telephoto lens, an absolute first for the industry. The Find X8 Ultra had further raised the bar with the Hasselblad penta-camera system. But with the new Find X9 Ultra, it’s not just about adding cameras or increasing megapixels; it’s about redesigning the entire approach to mobile photography, transforming the smartphone into a fully-fledged professional tool.
The partnership with Hasselblad—the historic Swedish brand that for decades has defined the standards of medium-format professional photography—reaches its most mature expression here. This is no longer a superficial collaboration with some added color profiles and a logo on the back. On the Find X9 Ultra, Hasselblad is present in optical design, color calibration, device aesthetics, and even specialized accessories like the Earth Explorer kit.
We flew all the way to China for the official presentation of this smartphone (more dedicated articles will follow). After several weeks of testing, we took the Find X9 Ultra under very different shooting conditions: from urban photography in difficult lighting situations to shooting in fully illuminated open environments, alongside regular everyday use as a primary phone. We can say that we had in our hands a device that does not compromise on almost any front, featuring a five-camera system, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a QHD+ 6.82-inch display, and a 7050 mAh battery.
The pricing and specifications place it in the ultra-premium segment, directly competing with the best smartphones available. The question we asked ourselves throughout the testing period was simple: is it worth every penny? The answer, as we’ll see, is almost always yes.

Highlights and Technical Specifications
Taking an overall look at the specifications above, OPPO Find X9 Ultra's ambition is clear: to position itself among the absolute benchmarks in the premium segment, without leaving out any particular areas.
Beyond the photographic side, which is the central element of the project, the hardware platform based on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, made with a 3nm manufacturing process, proved to be consistently responsive. The memory configuration with variants up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage allows for seamless multitasking, photo and video editing directly from the device, in addition to demanding gaming sessions.
Another striking element is the battery, which boasts a capacity of 7050 mAh with silicon-carbon technology, featuring fast charging at 100W and 50W wireless. Such numbers become significant even for those who use their smartphone as a daily work tool. As we will see later, the autonomy proves to be an important point of the device.
On the connectivity front, essentially nothing is missing: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, Dual SIM support, and advanced signal management thanks to the proprietary optimization system. Even during movement and in less favorable contexts, connection stability remained at high levels.
The camera system deserves a separate discussion, but even on the numbers alone, the intent to change the game is evident. The presence of a 200 MP main sensor alongside another 200 MP on the 3x telephoto and a 50 MP with 10x optical zoom represents a configuration that is decidedly outside the traditional standards.
In conclusion, the certifications IP66, IP68, and IP69 emphasize a particular attention to resistance. During testing, this feature contributed to using the device more confidently, even in less “controlled” conditions, like rain or dusty environments. But now let's dive deeper into our review point by point.
Design and User Experience
Lines, materials, and details narrate a clear direction: to bring into the smartphone world an aesthetic strongly linked to traditional photography, without limiting itself to mere aesthetic references. The design has changed significantly from the standard and Pro versions of Find X9 while remaining truer to the predecessor X8 Ultra.
The back represents without a doubt the most distinctive element. We find a finish in vegan leather that offers a very different tactile sensation compared to the classic glass used in most flagships. This is a solution that proved particularly effective not only in terms of grip but also for resistance to fingerprints, which disappear completely. In short, the device tends to stay clean longer.
The camera module is very large and protrudes but is well integrated. Let’s say it’s the compromise we must endure to achieve this quality. It openly recalls the world of professional cameras, and we’re not just talking about significant dimensions but also a carefully crafted construction, thanks to CNC machining around the optical group.
We are talking about an important smartphone in terms of size 163.16x76.97x9.10 mm, weighing over 230 grams. That said, OPPO Find X9 Ultra cannot be defined as light, but the balance is well studied (not easy given the huge camera module), with the center of gravity positioned to make the grip stable, especially when using the device as a proper camera. Certainly, one-handed use is not always immediate, but this is a predictable compromise on a device with such characteristics.
One element we particularly appreciated during testing is the Quick Button. Strategically positioned and finished with a very visible orange color. Thanks to this button, a double tap gives immediate access to the camera functions, even when the device is off. A single tap takes the shot.
We must say that at first, it isn’t used often, but as days go by it becomes a natural tool to use. On the other side, there’s also the Snap Key, which we have already seen on other OPPO smartphones. A customizable physical button from the settings, which you can set to various apps, including ringtone, Mind Space, camera, etc.
From a construction standpoint, the overall feel is of a solid and well-built product. Furthermore, the smartphone boasts IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, making it resistant to almost everything—sudden rain, water splashes, and even immersion.
Software and Performance
Now let’s delve into OPPO Find X9 Ultra. We are talking about a smartphone based on a high-end combination: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform and ColorOS 16 based on Android 16.
With this top-of-the-line hardware solution, application opening, transitions between multiple tasks, and background operation management occur without any problems. Even under intense loads, such as photo editing or prolonged gaming sessions, the performance remains stable. This is thanks not only to the SoC but also to the cooling system, which manages to contain temperatures, avoiding noticeable drops in performance. In fact, we did not register significant overheating, only slightly on the back and along the frame after long photography sessions and benchmarks, but nothing alarming.

But let’s move on to the software part, where the protagonist is ColorOS 16, a new update of the skin based on Android 16 that, though we have already seen it in Find X9 Pro, brings some important novelties to the Ultra version.
One of the most interesting updates is Live Space, a feature that changes the approach to managing notifications on the lock screen. With a swipe down, all notifications gather in a compact capsule, leaving the background visible. In practice, this solution proved useful, especially to maintain order without sacrificing quick access to information.
But it is on the front of artificial intelligence that OPPO introduced a series of tools that try to go beyond classic support functions. Besides the AI Mind Space we already know, it is now possible to use the AI Bill Manager function, integrated right within AI Mind Space. After a digital payment, the system can automatically recognize and catalog the transaction. Even physical receipts can be captured via the camera, with data extraction and automatic organization. In daily use, this feature allowed us to track expenses easily, without needing dedicated applications.
But even more important is the AI Mind Pilot. Here the approach changes radically: it’s not just a single assistant but a system that coordinates multiple AI models like Gemini, DeepSeek, and Perplexity. During testing, we used this function for complex searches, travel planning, and technical information comparison. The system autonomously decides which model to use based on the type of request or allows comparing multiple responses simultaneously. Let’s say the integration of different sources translates into more complete and contextualized responses.
An absolute novelty is also the AI Menu Translation, a functionality designed primarily for travelers. We won’t deny that during our trip to China it was more than helpful in various restaurants. Essentially, entering the Translate app and pointing the camera at a menu does not just translate the text; it also generates images of the dishes and instant conversion of prices into the desired currency.
On the connectivity front, All-New Quick Share introduces the ability to share content between different devices, including traditionally less compatible ecosystems. We’re talking about file transfers between smartphones and computers that occurred rapidly and without complications. For the rest, all the software functionalities we saw on Find X9 Pro remain, from Mind Space to all AI editing features on photographs, AI real-time translation, AI voice transcription, and AI copywriting.
Display
A high-level panel is now an indispensable element for a premium smartphone, and OPPO Find X9 Ultra presents characteristics that, at least on paper, aim for the top of the segment. The 6.82-inch diagonal, combined with the QHD+ resolution (3168×1440 pixels), offers a wide and defined surface, suitable for both multimedia consumption and more productive activities. The display has a density of 510 ppi and uses LTPO technology, essential for having a dynamic refresh rate management, varying from 1 to 144 Hz.
One of the aspects that convinced us the most is the brightness of the display, where outdoor use never represented a problem, even under direct sunlight. The screen remains always legible, with colors that retain good fidelity even in difficult conditions.
At the same time, the ability to go down to 1 nit proves useful in low-light environments. During evening or night use, the minimum brightness allows for device use without straining the eyes. This is accompanied by a PWM dimming system at 2160 Hz, which helps to reduce perceived flicker, making the experience more comfortable during prolonged sessions.
From a color standpoint, the panel supports a 10-bit color depth and complete coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. During HDR content viewing, compatible with Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid, the display manages to deliver a good dynamic range, with deep blacks and well-managed highlights. But we tested it in the lab to get even more detailed data.
Our Display Tests
The display analysis was performed using the X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter and the HCFR software suite, following calibration of the instrument using the X-Rite i1 Pro 2 spectrophotometer.
Brightness

Area 100%
The panel equipped on OPPO Find X9 Ultra positions itself at the very top of the ranking regarding light output, reaching a peak brightness of 3754 nits (with APL at 15%). Even under full white screen conditions (100%), the recorded value of 1825 nits ensures perfect readability under direct sunlight. Being an AMOLED panel, the contrast ratio is close to infinity (black pixels are completely turned off, zeroing the minimum luminance and allowing colors to stand out on a truly black background, favoring depth of image).

The most rigorous factory calibration is achieved by selecting the Standard profile, which aims at the DCI-P3 reference. The latter is the standard color space of the digital cinema industry (broader than classic sRGB) and the reference gamut is covered at 99%. The tonal progression of the gray scale is excellent, with correctly balanced white that shows no evident dominants. The gamma curve closely follows the 2.2 reference, maintaining the correct distribution of brightness between shadows and highlights. The average DeltaE of 1.4 (detected via Macbeth Color Checker) indicates professional color fidelity (the human eye cannot perceive deviations below 3), making the device suitable for photographic color correction on the go.

Switching to Vivid mode, the panel pushes its color capabilities to the max, surpassing the reference triangle's boundaries. The white balance shifts towards cooler temperatures (a sought-after characteristic to achieve “brighter” whites visually), also influencing the gamma curve, slightly shifting it upwards, thereby delivering brighter images in the midtones compared to the reference. Despite an average DeltaE of 3.5, which indicates lower accuracy compared to the Standard mode, the overall rendering remains pleasing for consuming social and multimedia content, where extra saturation is often preferred over absolute neutrality.

In HDR mode, the device reaches a maximum brightness of around 950 nits, maintaining a P3 gamut coverage of 95%. The white balance remains consistent with what has been seen in SDR, preserving gray neutrality. A remarkable behavior can be noticed in the management of the gamma curve according to the SMPTE HDR 2084 standard: where most competitors tend to overexpose midtones to make the image appear brighter, OPPO opts for a conservative strategy. The Find X9 Ultra, in fact, returns midtones slightly darker than the original reference, a technical decision that favors black retention and micro-contrast in shadow areas of the cinematic scene. Overall, an immensely high-quality display capable of delivering perfectly readable images even under sunlight.
Battery Life and Charging
Now we come to another crucial point for a smartphone: its battery life. Speaking of technical specifications, OPPO Find X9 Ultra integrates a 7050 mAh silicon-carbon battery, a capacity that, already on paper, positions it among the highest in the flagship smartphone landscape. But how does it perform in real usage?
In these weeks, we spent days with the Find X9 Ultra, using it intensely at times and less so at others. On “normal” days, with a mix of activities including browsing on mobile data, using social media, frequent photography sessions, and some video recording, we made it to the evening without issues, still having a good 20% of remaining battery.
During more demanding days (such as when traveling), characterized by intense use of the camera, lengthy periods of active screen time, films, and YouTube videos, we still made it to the evening without problem.
An important contribution comes from the PowerCore Battery Management Chip, designed specifically for silicon-carbon batteries. Throughout the testing period, this component proved to improve discharge stability, especially when below 20%. The device never enters a too aggressive “conservative” mode, allowing continued use with some peace of mind even when the charge gets close to zero.
Battery Life
Overall Test
On the charging front, OPPO Find X9 Ultra supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. In practice, just a few minutes connected to the power supply are enough to recover a sufficient amount of energy to cover several hours of use. Reverse charging is also available, both wired and wireless, useful for powering accessories or other devices in emergency situations.
Camera
As previously stated, the camera system represents the core of the experience with OPPO Find X9 Ultra, and it is precisely on this aspect that we focused significant time during the two-week trial, with a more in-depth article to follow in the coming weeks.

Features: portrait mode, HDR
The 200 MP main sensor, a Sony LYT-901 of 1/1.12”, is one of the most interesting elements. In daily use, what impresses is not only the amount of detail but the overall management of the scene. The images are rich, with a wide dynamic range and a good ability to handle complex situations like backlighting or strong contrasts. You can shoot in JPEG, JPEG MAX, and for professionals, also in RAW and RAW MAX.
You can shoot at actual 200 MP with the high-resolution mode, and in favorable lighting conditions, the results are remarkable. During the trial, we leveraged this mode primarily for landscapes and urban scenes, where the ability to crop the image in post-production proves particularly useful. Even after significant cropping, the level of detail remains high. The behavior at 2x, achieved via crop from the main sensor, is also interesting. In this case, you still work with a base of 50 MP, maintaining very high quality.
The 3x telephoto 200 MP represents the real strong point, and also the sensor we liked the most. The wide sensor of 1/1.28” allows capturing a greater amount of light compared to traditional solutions, delivering sharper and cleaner shots, especially in portraits.
Moving up with the zoom, the 10x telephoto 50 MP comes into play. Here the engineering work is evident: the multiple-prism structure allows achieving an equivalent focal length of approximately 230 mm while keeping dimensions compatible with a smartphone. In real use, the quality at 10x is surprisingly good, with a level of detail above average and effective stabilization even handheld. Pushing beyond, up to 20x or more, the quality remains more than usable, although over 30x, inevitably more aggressive processing algorithms come into play.
The 50 MP ultra-wide angle completes the system with an equivalent focal length of 14 mm. It has proven to be a very good sensor for landscapes and architecture, with good distortion management and consistent color rendering with the other sensors. The presence of autofocus also allows leveraging it for macro shots.
One often undervalued but fundamental element is the True Color multispectral sensor. In daily use, it helps to improve color fidelity. Skin tones, for example, appear generally more natural than many other solutions available in the market.
On the video side, OPPO has truly excelled. The Find X9 Ultra indeed offers an extremely complete package, with all sensors supporting 4K recording at 60 fps with Dolby Vision, allowing smooth transitions between lenses with color consistency during recording. It even records in 4K at 120 fps, with high-quality slow motion. Even more interesting is the ability to record in 8K at 30 fps, both with the main camera and the 3x telephoto. Here, the amount of detail is very high, allowing ample room for cropping and reframing in post-production.
But it’s for professionals that Find X9 Ultra makes a difference compared to other smartphones. The O-Log2 mode represents something unique in the industry. The logarithmic profile allows preserving a larger amount of information in shadows and highlights, facilitating color correction in post-production. But what changes the game is the presence of LUT support, with real-time preview and the ability to “burn” the profile directly into the file. We are talking about tools that are hardly found so comprehensively in a smartphone, which bring the experience closer to that of a dedicated video camera.
Below we show some photos taken in China during the device launch with the camera phone.

Final Considerations
We have reached the end of this review, and it’s time to make some considerations and reflections. Without a shadow of a doubt, we are facing one of the most complete and ambitious devices currently available in the smartphone landscape.
The overall experience is built around a precise idea, mainly revolving around photography and content creation. However, it is not an unbalanced product focused on a single aspect. On the contrary, every component contributes to building a coherent system capable of offering high performance in every area.
Naturally, some small compromises remain. Size and weight may not be suitable for everyone, especially for those looking for a more compact smartphone. The price is also an element to be carefully analyzed, considering the figure requested at launch. But we believe that this price is perfectly in line with what this smartphone offers. It may seem high if taken as an absolute value, but if we think about what this device can do, especially if you are a professional, every cent is justified.
