Huawei Watch Fit 5 and 5 Pro Official: 3000 Nit Display with Sapphire and Titanium

Huawei took advantage of the launch event for the new Pura 90 and the foldable Pura X Max to significantly revamp its mid-range wearable lineup. The new Huawei Watch Fit 5 series splits this year into a standard version and a Pro variant, greatly enhancing the technical specifications, particularly regarding build quality and panel performance.

The most noticeable generational leap is in the displays. The Watch Fit 5 Pro features a 1.92-inch AMOLED unit protected by 2.5D sapphire glass, capable of achieving a peak local brightness of 3,000 nits. This ensures excellent readability even under direct sunlight, surpassing many direct competitors. The standard version is not far behind, offering a 1.82-inch display with a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits. Both models support Always-On Display (AOD) mode, which reduces overall battery life to about four days of continuous use.

Differentiation between the two models also comes from the materials used. While the Watch Fit 5 uses an aluminum frame, the Pro version incorporates a titanium bezel, giving the device a look closer to high-end sports watches. Interaction with the operating system occurs through a combination of touch and physical controls, consisting of a digital crown and a shortcut button located on the right side of the case.

Under the hood, Huawei has updated the sensor suite by integrating new optical modules for heart rate monitoring, featuring 6 LEDs and 6 PPG, alongside skin temperature sensors. The Pro model goes further by offering support for ECG and a dedicated depth sensor. This addition allows the Watch Fit 5 Pro to obtain specific certification for apnea (freediving) up to 40 meters, surpassing the typical 5 ATM water resistance that characterizes the base model, which is mainly suitable for surface swimming.

On the sports tracking front, an advanced cycling mode makes its debut, derived directly from the experience gained with the Watch GT 6 Pro. Both devices benefit from dual-band GNSS positioning, which is crucial for tracking accuracy in dense urban environments or wooded areas. Connectivity relies on Bluetooth 6.0 and the presence of NFC, although these specifications are currently confirmed for the Chinese market.

Despite the performance increase of the screens, energy efficiency remains a cornerstone. Huawei claims a battery life of 10 days with light use and 7 days in typical usage scenarios. Charging is managed through the usual proprietary magnetic connector. A small but useful software update includes the integration of a voice recorder, allowing quick note-taking or recording meetings directly from the smartwatch using its built-in microphone and speaker, which are also used for managing Bluetooth calls.

The Watch Fit 5 is launching in the Chinese market for now, with an extended color range (purple, green, white, black, and silver) priced at 1,099 yuan (about 140 euros at current exchange rates). The Watch Fit 5 Pro is offered in black, white, and orange at a price of 2,199 yuan (about 275 euros). The product launch in China is scheduled for April 29, while official details on global distribution have yet to be released.
