Huawei Outpaces Everyone with Pura X Max: the 'Wide' Foldable Features a Stylus and Kirin Heart

Huawei expands its line of flexible devices with the debut of Pura X Max, a terminal that takes the concept of "wide foldable" to the extreme. While the previous Pura X sought a balance between a flip and a book-style, the Max variant decisively aims higher, increasing the size of the internal panel to now reach 7.7 inches.

Despite the increase in surface area, engineering work has drastically reduced the thickness: we're talking about just 5.2 mm when open and 11.2 mm when folded, a marked improvement over the 15.1 mm of the standard model.

The displays utilize LTPO 2.0 technology with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz and a high-frequency PWM dimming system (1,440Hz) to reduce eye strain. The internal panel boasts a resolution of 2,584 x 1,828 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 14.1:10 that approaches the productivity of classic 4:3. The external screen also grows, moving from the 3.5 inches of the Pura X to a generous 5.4 inches, protected by second-generation Kunlun glass.

Under the hood beats the new beating heart of the company, the Kirin 9030 Pro SoC. Huawei claims a 30% performance increase compared to the Kirin 9020 seen on the smaller version, a necessary leap to manage the HarmonyOS 6.1 interface installed by default. The cooling is entrusted to a combined system that uses a vapor chamber and graphene sheets, crucial for maintaining stable temperatures in such a thin body.

The productivity sector receives an important upgrade thanks to support for the Huawei M-Pen 3 Mini, a stylus specifically designed for the compact dimensions of this form factor. For transport, the company has planned dedicated cases, including a variant with an integrated magnetic stand. On the durability front, Pura X Max takes a decisive step forward by obtaining IP58/IP59 certification, guaranteeing protection not only against immersion but also against high-pressure and temperature water jets.

The photographic experience relies on proprietary XMAGE technology and a triple sensor configuration, all characterized by the RYYB matrix (Red-Yellow-Yellow-Blue) to capture more light. The main camera has 50 MP and features optical stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture f/1.4-4.0, a feature inherited from the top-of-the-line P series.

Prices start from the 12GB/256GB version offered at 11,000 CNY (about 1,370 euros at the exchange rate), rising to the top variant with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage priced at 14,000 CNY (about 1,750 euros). No official information has been released yet regarding a possible distribution in international markets.
