Fastweb disappears from Starlink Mobile partners after just over a month: what is happening?

The Italian operator Fastweb has recently been removed from the official list of partners of Starlink Mobile, the service developed by SpaceX to bring mobile connectivity to areas not covered by terrestrial networks. The news comes just weeks after Fastweb's name had appeared among the operators involved in the project, fueling speculation about a possible collaboration in Italy.

Starlink Mobile represents one of the most interesting innovations in the telecommunications sector: it allows mobile operators to use a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites as true repeaters in space. In this way, coverage can be provided even in remote or hard-to-reach areas by traditional infrastructure.

Fastweb's inclusion in the partner list, which occurred in early March 2026, led many to believe that an imminent agreement was forming between the Italian company and Starlink. Specifically, Fastweb could have become the first operator in the country to integrate this innovative technology.

End of collaboration between Starlink and Fastweb?

However, in recent days, the operator's name has disappeared from the official list published on Starlink's website. Along with Fastweb, an operator from Bangladesh has also been removed, with no official explanations provided. This has generated uncertainty about the real motivations behind the decision: it could be that an agreement has not yet been formalized or that changes are occurring in the business strategies of the companies involved.

At this time, neither Fastweb nor Starlink has released official statements, leaving various interpretations open. Users and industry observers will therefore have to wait for any communications to understand whether the collaboration will be confirmed or definitively shelved.

From a technological standpoint, Starlink Mobile uses the "Direct to Cell" service, which allows standard LTE smartphones to connect directly to satellites without the need for modifications or additional antennas. The satellites, equipped with advanced antennas, serve as a bridge between the device and the terrestrial network of the partner operator, ensuring service continuity even in the most isolated areas.
