Ubisoft in Trouble: Splinter Cell Remake Delayed to 2027, While Far Cry 7 Seems to Be Having a Turbulent Development

The latest rumors about the state of Ubisoft's projects are not particularly encouraging for fans of its most beloved franchises. According to industry insiders, the remake of Splinter Cell has been postponed to 2027, while the next installment in the Far Cry series is reportedly undergoing an extremely complicated development phase.

The Splinter Cell remake, officially announced in 2021, was initially slated for a much earlier release but has faced a significant delay due to an internal reorganization within the company. This project is one of seven titles postponed by Ubisoft during 2026, as part of an effort to redefine priorities and improve production quality. During development, the team also faced major changes, including the temporary departure of director David Grivel, who has since returned to lead the project at Ubisoft Toronto, a studio that has suffered layoffs.

At the same time, the future of the Far Cry series appears uncertain. The purported Far Cry 7, codenamed "Blackbird", is said to be in a troubled development phase, described by some sources as a true "hell and back" journey. The game is expected to introduce an innovative narrative structure, centered on a protagonist tasked with saving members of their family within a 24-hour time limit, an element that could revolutionize the series' pacing.

Not only Splinter Cell Remake: other projects at Ubisoft Alongside this main project, Ubisoft is reportedly also working on a spin-off called "Maverick", described as an extraction shooter set in Alaska. Both titles are expected to include revamped systems for inventory, loot, and movement, with the introduction of mechanics like tactical sprinting.

Despite these innovations, the current state of affairs suggests that neither game will be ready before 2027. Internal difficulties and the need for reorganization are thus slowing development, putting the originally anticipated timelines into question.

In the meantime, Ubisoft continues to focus on other significant projects, such as new chapters of the Assassin's Creed series, in an attempt to maintain public interest. However, the delays with Splinter Cell and Far Cry highlight the challenges that even major publishers must face.
