The new Surface Pro and Laptop are coming: new chips and even higher prices?

In the coming months, Microsoft is expected to update its Surface range with the launch of two new products. Indeed, the new generations of Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are on the way (specifically, the twelfth and eighth generations, respectively).

The update of the Surface range is expected to be little more than a refresh, introducing new chips to replace the first generation of Snapdragon X and not much else. Due to the chip crisis, however, prices will rise, following the trend already seen with the current Surfaces.

Upcoming Changes

The new Surface Pro and Laptop are expected to debut in spring with Intel Core Ultra 3 chips. During the summer, the variants with Snapdragon X2 will arrive. At the moment, it is unclear which processor models Microsoft will choose and whether there will be further differences between the line with Intel chips and that with Qualcomm chips. It's worth noting that for the current generation, Microsoft opted for Snapdragon chips but chose Intel for the variants aimed at the business market.

Additionally, it's important to note that the new Surfaces will not feature the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme (the top-of-the-line chip in Qualcomm's new family) but only X2 Plus and X2 Elite.

The entire range will start with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD, with the possibility of going up to 64 GB of RAM and 2 TB of SSD. Also noteworthy is the arrival of the OLED display for the Surface Laptop, which, as is already the case with the Pro, will be an exclusive for the higher-end configurations.

Pricing

Prices will be high, with the new generations of Pro and Laptop potentially costing more than the current ones. At the moment, there are no plans for an "economical" Surface that could serve as a Windows alternative to the MacBook Neo.
