The co-founder of Netflix has left the company: a new beginning for the streaming platform?

However, a notable farewell is approaching: Reed Hastings, co-founder of the company, will be leaving Netflix. The official confirmation came alongside the release of the first quarter results for 2026.

A new beginning for Netflix?
Reed Hastings has chosen to leave Netflix and will not run for re-election to the board of directors. The farewell is set for next June. The 65-year-old entrepreneur will dedicate himself to "philanthropic activities and other initiatives," and currently, there do not seem to be any other entrepreneurial ventures on the horizon. Hastings has a net worth estimated by Forbes at around $5.8 billion.

Netflix commented on the departure: "Reed has built a culture of innovation, integrity, and high performance that defines who we are today. His vision and leadership have paved the way for how the world is entertained, and his legacy and impact are felt not only by all of us at Netflix but also by audiences around the globe."

For Netflix, it marks the beginning of a new era. After the unsuccessful acquisition of Warner Bros, the platform is changing its face: it will offer more and more movies and TV series, but subscription prices are set to rise, and there will be increasing advertisements for users.
