The PS6 Could Be Backward Compatible with PS4 and PS5: A New Leak Foreshadows Sony's Decision

The development of the PS6 (and its handheld version) continues. Sony is facing challenges presented by the memory crisis, which could result in a delayed console launch compared to original plans.

In the meantime, a new leak from the YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead hints at what could be a winning move for Sony. The PS6 and the PS6 handheld could be backward compatible with PS4 and PS5, granting users access to a catalog of thousands of games. Here are the details regarding this.

A News to Confirm

The leak is based on a slide from an old AMD presentation that precisely references backward compatibility. As of now, there is still no official confirmation regarding this. The possibility of accessing PS4 and PS5 games would represent a significant strength for the new PS6 and its handheld version, which will effectively be an integral part of the ecosystem.

The project for the new handheld, in particular, might be less expensive than expected for Sony, which should pay about $46.8 for the APU at the core of the console (compared to the $81.5 paid for the PS5's APU). Concerning the price of the PS6, however, the rumors are concerning, and the costs could be considerable.

Let’s remember that due to the memory crisis and the difficulties in obtaining the necessary supplies for starting production, Sony's next-generation console could be postponed. The debut, in any case, will not take place before 2027.
