Epic Games is working on an extraction shooter game with Disney: iconic characters in an Arc Raiders style gameplay

Epic Games is reportedly developing a new video game in collaboration with Disney, a project that could mark an important turning point after the $1.5 billion investment made by the entertainment company in 2024. According to a report from Bloomberg, the main title in development would be a multiplayer shooter belonging to the "extraction shooter" genre, with a possible launch expected for November 2026.

The game, which has not yet been officially announced, is said to draw inspiration from mechanics similar to those of Arc Raiders. In this type of experience, players fight to collect resources and must then manage to escape the map through specific extraction points. The main difference would be in the setting: instead of post-apocalyptic scenarios, the title would include characters from the Disney universe, creating an unusual mix of competitive gameplay and entertainment icons.

Despite the interest surrounding the project, some internal sources cited by Bloomberg have expressed doubts about the originality of the gameplay mechanics, deemed to be less innovative compared to other similar titles already on the market. However, among the three Disney projects currently in development at Epic, this one is considered the most promising.

Disney and Epic, further details on the future game
The other two games seem to have had more challenging paths: one reportedly received mediocre internal ratings, while for the third, Epic significantly reduced resources after some hesitations expressed by Disney regarding development timelines. This suggests a collaboration that is still in the stabilizing phase, with high expectations but results not always meeting them.

The corporate context makes the project even more relevant. In March 2026, Epic Games laid off about 1,000 employees due to a decline in interest in Fortnite, its flagship title. For this reason, the new Disney game could represent a strategic attempt at revitalization and renewal of the offering.

However, an important uncertainty remains: it is still unclear whether the shooter will be a standalone game or an integrated mode within Fortnite. In recent years, Epic has transformed its title into a broader platform, introducing diverse experiences to compete with virtual environments like Roblox. Disney, for its part, had envisioned a digital ecosystem where users could play, watch content, and interact with its most famous franchises.
