Electric Scooters: MIT Assures On Permit Management By May 16
The process of introducing the mandatory permit for electric scooters continues according to the established timetable. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has clarified, through an official communication, that the administrative and operational infrastructure has already been set up to ensure full compliance by users by May 16, the date the obligation comes into effect.
According to the statements made, any critical issues that arose during the initial stages—particularly misalignments in bookings—are exclusively attributable to the physiological start-up phase of the new processes. In recent hours, the Consumerism No Profit association had sounded the alarm.
The Ministry emphasizes that such anomalies do not represent a structural limitation of the operational capacity of the offices, but rather a transitional effect related to the introduction of the system. From a logistical perspective, the MIT highlights that it has already produced and distributed over 200,000 permits to the 103 offices of the civil motorization, adhering to the planned timelines. This figure suggests a well-established production and distribution capacity, at least in the initial rollout phase.
At the same time, the administration is working on an update of the booking methods. The declared goal is to make the process more aligned with user needs, improving flow management and reducing waiting times. Technical details on the new solutions have not yet been provided, but it is plausible that there will be an intervention on digital booking systems and the distribution of requests among the offices.
The Ministry also claims the overall structure of the measure, emphasizing that the system has been designed to keep costs low for citizens and reduce processing times. These two key aspects are intended to encourage widespread adoption without introducing excessive bureaucratic friction.
It remains to be seen how well the system will hold up in the weeks leading up to the May 16 deadline when a peak in requests is expected.
