Toyota bZ7: a sedan over 5 meters long that costs slightly more than a base Panda in China

Toyota has finally launched the eagerly awaited bZ7 in the Chinese market, a large sedan developed in collaboration with GAC. Unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the vehicle impresses not only with its technology-oriented features but also, and above all, with an incredibly competitive starting price.

The base price is just 147,800 yuan, or about 18,400 euros, for a top-of-the-line configuration that reaches 199,800 yuan (approximately 24,900 euros). For comparison, the official starting price of the FIAT Panda is 15,900 euros.

The dimensions highlight the positioning of the vehicle: 5.13 meters in length, 1.965 meters in width, and 1.51 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 3.02 meters. This is the second vehicle entirely designed in China after the bZ3X.

One of the most relevant aspects concerns the propulsion platform. Toyota and GAC have chosen a solution developed by Huawei, signaling the growing presence of the tech giant in the automotive sector. The Huawei Drive ONE system integrates the electric motor, inverter, and transmission into a single module, with a total power of 207 kW (280 hp) and a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

Software integration continues in the cabin, where the bZ7 adopts the HarmonyOS 5.0 operating system, designed to manage the functions of the smart cockpit and enhance driver-vehicle interaction.

On the energy front, the sedan uses LFP batteries supplied by CALB, available in two capacities. The version with the higher capacity, 88.13 kWh, allows for a range of up to 710 km according to the CLTC cycle, while the variant with 71.35 kWh caps at 600 km CLTC. The maximum charging power reaches 128 kW.

The equipment also includes an advanced driver assistance system developed by Momenta. The architecture is based on 27 sensors and supports driving both in urban environments and on highways. In the most complete configuration, a LiDAR sensor is present, enabling the Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) function.

Commercially, Toyota is offering the bZ7 with a launch price of 147,800 yuan (around 18,400 euros) and a list that goes up to 199,800 yuan (approximately 24,900 euros). Deliveries to customers have already begun in China.

Clearly, this is a vehicle aimed exclusively at the Chinese market. It lacks some systems mandated by European legislation, which is why it is unlikely to be adapted and distributed in Europe. However, for a C-segment car with high-level technological integration and similar features, the price is certainly attractive.
