LinkedIn Introduces Video Playback Speed Control to Enhance User Experience
LinkedIn continues to strengthen its video content strategy by introducing a simple yet much-requested feature: playback speed control. Users can now modify the speed of videos directly within the feed, choosing between 0.5x and 2x, thus adapting the viewing experience to their needs.
The new feature has been gradually rolled out over the past few weeks and represents an important step towards a more flexible and personalized experience. To use this feature, simply tap the '1x' indicator located at the bottom corner of the video player and select the desired speed. This addition, although technical, can significantly impact how users consume content.
In fact, this functionality is not entirely new within the LinkedIn ecosystem: similar options were already available on LinkedIn Learning, the training platform. However, bringing it to the main feed means extending its use to a much broader audience, integrating it into the daily consumption of social content.
Additional Details on the LinkedIn Update
The introduction of this update comes at a time when videos are becoming increasingly central. According to data shared by the platform, video watch time has grown by 36% year-over-year in 2024, while video content generates about 1.4 times more interactions than other formats. These numbers clearly explain why LinkedIn is investing in this direction.
Recently, the platform has introduced several innovations to encourage the creation and consumption of videos, including a full-screen feed that allows easy scrolling through short clips, similar to other social platforms. This format promotes the sharing of quick and immediate content, though it remains to be seen how much LinkedIn can compete with apps more oriented towards pure entertainment.
The ability to adjust playback speed may also encourage the posting of longer videos. Users can speed up less interesting content or slow down more complex ones, thus enhancing the overall experience.
