iPhone Fold at Risk of Delay: Issues in Initial Testing Could Postpone Production and Launch

The development of Apple's first foldable iPhone appears to be encountering significant obstacles, putting the planned launch scheduled for 2026 at risk. According to recent rumors from the supply chain, the mass production of components for the hypothetical iPhone Fold could face delays if the issues arising during initial testing are not resolved quickly.

The project for the foldable iPhone has been circulating for years, ever since Samsung introduced the first foldable smartphones in 2019. Although the market for foldable devices has remained a niche, many Apple users continue to await a similar device. However, the latest news suggests that the wait may be prolonged further.

During the experimental production phase, Apple reportedly encountered more issues than expected. Sources close to the project indicate that more time will be needed to make the technical adjustments and complete the engineering verifications. In particular, the period between April and early May is described as crucial for determining the future of the device.

Rumors and Speculations on the Delay of iPhone Fold

Meanwhile, some rumors had reported the beginning of trial production at Foxconn, Apple's long-time partner. However, the timing of this information may not reflect the current situation, as sources from the supply chain seem to indicate more recent and less encouraging updates.

Apple had planned an initial production of between 7 and 8 million units of iPhone Fold, a relatively modest figure compared to the total volume of iPhones expected for 2026, accounting for less than 10% of the overall production. This data highlights how the device would have been aimed at a premium and limited segment of the market.

According to some rumors, the launch of the iPhone Fold was expected alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models during the September autumn event. However, any delays in production could force Apple to postpone not only the distribution but also the official announcement, breaking the company's traditional launch schedule. If issues persist, the delay could extend for several months, going beyond previous assumptions that indicated a limited postponement to October.
