TIM has enabled, for the first time in the national market, a function for transferring eSIM that eliminates the need for physical supports or scanning QR codes. The procedure, integrated directly into the operating system of the new Samsung Galaxy series smartphones (S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra), allows users to move their mobile profile from an old smartphone to the new one with a single software step.

This technical evolution addresses one of the main challenges related to the adoption of virtual SIMs: the cumbersome management of the profile during device changes. Until now, users often had to manually delete the profile from the old device before they could set it up on the new one, or they needed to request a new paper or digital QR Code from their operator. With the implementation chosen by TIM, the experience becomes entirely digital, reducing setup times and the margins of error during the initial setup of the smartphone.

Goodbye QR Code: eSIM Transfer Becomes Native

In addition to transferring between devices, TIM has introduced a simplified mode to convert a traditional SIM into an eSIM. The conversion occurs directly from the settings of the Samsung Galaxy S26, without the need to visit a physical store or go through complex steps. To ensure the necessary security standards and comply with identification regulations of the account holder, the process utilizes authentication via SPID (Public Digital Identity System) or CIE (Electronic Identity Card).

The integration of government digital identities into the telco activation flow represents a concrete step towards total dematerialization. Customers purchasing a Galaxy S26 can manage the entire lifecycle of their line independently, eliminating the exchange of plastic cards and contributing to a reduction of the environmental impact associated with the logistics of physical supports. This feature is available for those buying online as well as for those who prefer physical sales channels.
