Ray-Ban Meta: Introducing Blayzer and Scriber, Smart Glasses for Prescription Users

With the latest official announcement, the Ray-Ban Meta line takes a significant step forward, moving out of the realm of sunglasses to make a strong entry into the domain of daily prescription frames.

Blayzer and Scriber: Ergonomics Meets Technology

The main novelty concerns the introduction of two new frame styles, called Blayzer and Scriber. While the previous Wayfarer and Headliner models had already normalized the concept of "stylish smart glasses," the new offerings are born with a clear focus: prolonged comfort for those who need prescription lenses.

The Blayzer model features a more sporty and modern rectangular design, while the Scriber opts for softer, rounder lines, nodding to a vintage aesthetic. But it's not just about looks. Meta has worked on the engineering side, introducing high-extension hinges (with an additional 10-degree rotation), interchangeable nose pads, and adjustable temple tips. These seemingly minor details are crucial for those who wear glasses for 12-16 hours a day, allowing the optician to mold the frame to the user's face, just like with traditional glasses.

The Lens Ecosystem: From Prescription to Transitions

One of the historical limitations of smart glasses has been the difficulty of adapting to complex medical prescriptions. With this update, the partnership with Ray-Ban allows for the configuration of "Superior" and "Comfort" lenses, optimized for the specific aberrations introduced by technological frames (which must accommodate cameras and batteries).

Also interesting is the expansion of the Transitions range. In addition to the classic lenses that darken in the sun, new color combinations arrive: from Sapphire tones to new seasonal colors like "Shiny Transparent Peach" or "Matte Transparent Ice Grey." The goal is clear: to eliminate the need to switch glasses when transitioning from indoors to outdoors while keeping smart functions active. Below are all the new combinations.

Ray-Ban Meta: Spring Limited Edition

As for the Wayfarer, Headliner, and cat-eye Skyler styles, the update focuses on aesthetics and visual comfort through the extensive use of Transitions Grey and Brown photochromic lenses. The new colors play on "shiny" and "matte" transparencies:

  • Skyler: Shiny Transparent Peach frame with Transitions Grey lenses.
  • Headliner: Matte Transparent Peach frame with Transitions Grey lenses.
  • Wayfarer: Shiny Transparent Grey frame with Transitions Brown lenses.

Oakley Meta: Debuting Prizm Transitions Technology

The real technical novelty, however, concerns the Oakley Meta Vanguard and HSTN models. For the first time on the Vanguard design, Meta integrates Prizm Transitions lenses, capable of combining Oakley's contrast optimization technology with adaptive capacity to ambient light. Particularly interesting for golfers is the introduction of the Prizm Dark Golf lens, optimized for reading the green and terrain variations.

Here are the details of the new combinations available:

  • Vanguard Black: equipped with Prizm Black lenses.
  • Vanguard White: equipped with Prizm Rose Gold lenses.
  • Vanguard Black (Spring drop): Prizm Transitions Ember lenses (availability postponed).
  • Vanguard (Spring drop): Prizm Transitions Cobalt lenses (availability postponed).
  • HSTN Black: specific Prizm Dark Golf lenses.
  • HSTN Light Curry: photochromic lenses Transitions Clear to Brown.

Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia: What's Changing Under the Hood

From a technical standpoint, the beating heart remains the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 2 platform, which manages the 12 MP camera and the five-microphone system. On the other hand, the software continues to evolve. Meta has introduced significant improvements to Meta AI, which can now analyze what the user is looking at in real-time more smoothly.

Among the most awaited software features is the new "neural handwriting" (Neural Handwriting) function. This technology allows users to respond to messages by mimicking writing with their fingers on a surface or simply in the air, providing a silent and discreet alternative to voice commands. Improved support for pedestrian navigation is also coming: the voice assistant will guide the user step by step, using the GPS of the connected smartphone but providing immersive spatial audio feedback.

Availability and Pricing: Positioning in Italy

The new Blayzer and Scriber models, which represent the forefront of the "Optics collection," are offered with a starting price set at 469 euros. This figure refers to the frame equipped with intelligent technology (camera, microphones, speakers, and battery) with demonstration or standard transparent lenses.

Of course, the final cost is likely to vary based on the optical customization chosen by the user:

  • Prescription Lenses: The price depends on the prescription and treatment (anti-reflective, blue light protection, etc.). At partner optical centers, integrating prescription lenses may incur a surcharge that usually ranges from 140 to 300 euros, depending on the complexity of the visual defect.
  • Transitions Lenses: For those who desire new-generation photochromic lenses, complete packages can go up to 499 euros, offering maximum versatility between indoor and outdoor environments.

While pre-orders are already open in the United States, in Italy the new Blayzer and Scriber models will officially be available for purchase starting April 14, 2026.

Here are all the details.
