Google Makes Username Change Option Available: Goodbye to Awkward Gmail Addresses
Changing the username of your Google account will become a simple process. This way, users can modify the part that precedes the "@gmail.com" in their email address without having to create a new account. This option adds to other upcoming features for Gmail, a service that is becoming increasingly intelligent thanks to AI integration.
It Starts in the USA
After a testing phase that began last year, Google is enabling the option to change usernames in the United States. This feature is expected to arrive in Italy in the near future.
The procedure is very simple. Just log into your Google account (by visiting myaccount.google.com) and then go to Personal Info. In this section, it will be possible to change the username by selecting a new name.
It’s important to highlight a key aspect of the procedure: the old email address will remain active as an alternate address. Essentially, users who change their username will still be able to receive emails at their previous address. This way, there is no need to inform contacts about the change.
Of course, there are some limitations. The username change can only be done once every 12 months, and it is not possible to associate more than four email addresses with one account.
For now, there are no official announcements regarding global release, and this feature is only available in the USA. It will probably just take a few weeks before the username change can be done in Italy as well.
