Light Flip is Official, an Anti-Distraction Phone with a Flip Design
Light is a brand specialized in creating "anti-distraction" phones, in stark contrast to the growing prevalence of smartphones. For its fourth product, the company has opted for a flip design, a solution that smartphone manufacturers are gradually abandoning. The new model is called Light Flip.
The New Phone from Light
The Light Flip features a non-touch monochrome OLED display with a diagonal of 2.8 inches and a physical T9 keyboard with some additional buttons for navigation within Light OS, the operating system (based on Android) used by the smartphone, which includes various features related to privacy and mindful usage. There is no external display. In fact, once closed, the phone cannot be used.
The casing is made of plastic. Among its specifications, we find a 50 MP camera (which takes 12 MP photos), a 3.5 mm jack, a USB-C port, and Dual SIM support, with nano SIM and eSIM. It weighs 160 grams and the smartphone will be available in 6 colors.
The Light Flip will be sold at a price of $299 in the United States. Currently, the device is in pre-order phase. However, deliveries will not start until April 2027.
Kaiwei Tang, CEO and co-founder of Light, who previously worked on the original Motorola Razr in the mid-2000s, commented: "What we've realized is that many young people have never used a flip phone. At the same time, they are part of a wider reaction against this madness of artificial intelligence and the saturation of smartphones and social media. Now they want to be seen as people who do not use a smartphone, avoiding the escape route that this offers. And this doesn’t mean that they are completely giving up on technology."
