Wistron Opens First Facility in the USA: Targeting NVIDIA's Superchips

Wistron has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas, intended for the production of NVIDIA's Superchips, which form the hardware foundation of next-generation artificial intelligence platforms. The facility will not be producing semiconductors; that is the role of TSMC, but it will complete boards and all the other necessary steps to achieve the finished product.

The site represents one of the pieces of NVIDIA's strategy to strengthen production on U.S. soil and expand the manufacturing capacity necessary to meet the growing demand for AI infrastructures. The new plant, named D1, occupies an area of over 30,000 square meters and has been built as a greenfield facility. It currently hosts two production lines: one dedicated to the production of the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip, which is already operational, and a second line that will be dedicated to the future production of the NVIDIA Vera Rubin Superchip.

According to the company’s announcement, by the end of the year, the plant will progressively increase its production capacity to reach tens of thousands of boards per month. The opening of the facility is part of a total investment of $700 million aimed at advanced manufacturing in the United States. This initiative has already led to the creation of over 500 jobs, with the goal of reaching 1,000 employees by the end of 2026. The roles involve a range of fields from production to construction, including facility management, electricians, and specialized electronic manufacturing personnel.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, Wistron President Simon Lin, representatives from the Taiwanese government, and local Texas authorities. In his speech, Huang emphasized the strategic role of industrial production in developing the AI ecosystem, highlighting how building dedicated factories for chips, systems, and infrastructure can contribute to a new phase of industrialization in the United States.

The Fort Worth facility is also one of the projects through which NVIDIA aims to fulfill its goal of producing advanced AI platforms worth up to $500 billion on U.S. soil. Even before starting construction, Wistron designed and simulated the entire facility using a digital twin developed through NVIDIA's software ecosystem. For the creation of the virtual model, the Omniverse platform, Metropolis libraries, Nemotron models, and the PhysicsNeMo framework were employed. This approach allowed engineers to verify the layout of the production lines in advance, optimize assembly processes, and virtually train personnel on operational procedures before the real plant became operational, thus reducing startup times and potential inefficiencies.
