Telegram to Integrate a Native Crypto Wallet in App for Over 1 Billion Users
Telegram is preparing to introduce one of the most significant innovations in its history within the cryptocurrency sector. The founder, Pavel Durov, announced that by the end of summer, all versions of the application will receive a native non-custodial crypto wallet designed to allow users to make cryptocurrency transfers instantly and without fees.
The new solution will be developed to support Gram, the cryptocurrency of the Telegram ecosystem, previously known as Toncoin. Unlike a custodial wallet, the new system will allow users to maintain direct control over their private keys and therefore their funds, without entrusting management to external companies.
Currently, Telegram already offers the @wallet bot, which has over 150 million registered users. However, this service is managed by The Open Platform, a company independent of Telegram, and partially uses a custodial model. The new wallet announced by Durov will instead be directly integrated into the application and will operate from the outset as a completely non-custodial solution.
This summer will see the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history.
Instant zero-fee crypto transactions for over a billion users are about to become reality.

Durov sees this innovation in Telegram as the largest launch of non-custodial wallets.
Some aspects of the project remain to be clarified. It has not been specified whether the new wallet will replace the existing bot or if the two tools will coexist. Furthermore, Telegram has not yet communicated which other cryptocurrencies will be supported aside from Gram nor how the security of private keys will be managed for less experienced users.
According to Durov, this initiative will represent the largest launch of a non-custodial wallet ever realized. Given that Telegram surpasses one billion monthly active users, the project could indeed achieve unprecedented reach in the cryptocurrency sector.
The announcement had an immediate effect on the market. The value of Gram increased by approximately 7%, rising above $1.52 and reaching a market capitalization of about $4.18 billion. Despite the rise, the token remains distant from the historical highs recorded in 2024 as well as the peak reached in May 2026.
