Samsung: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is official! The first 'passport' format arrives

The South Korean company presented today the new series Galaxy Z Fold8, introducing an unprecedentedly diversified offer, with a significant new feature. Now in its eighth generation, the Galaxy Z foldables do not only refine the ergonomic and mechanical characteristics of their predecessors but also welcome for the first time an 'Ultra' variant designed for those seeking the utmost in terms of productivity and photographic hardware, complemented by a Fold model redesigned in proportions and an even more compact Flip integrated with advanced artificial intelligence services.

The entire ecosystem revolves around the evolution of Galaxy AI, now enriched by collaboration with Gemini Intelligence, and the adoption of the new structural technology Flex Titanium, designed to increase rigidity while simultaneously reducing weight, overall thickness, and the visibility of the central crease.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: the Ultra standard meets the foldable form factor

It represents the peak of technology ever achieved by Samsung in the flexible device segment. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings the philosophy of the Ultra series into a frame that, when open, measures just 4.1 mm thick with a weight of 215 grams.

The heart of the user experience is the impressive main internal panel, Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 8.0 inches with QXGA+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, accompanied by an external 6.5-inch FHD+ screen in a 21:9 format optimized for one-handed use.

Under the hood beats the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with memory configurations of up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of UFS storage. To sustain prolonged workloads and intense multitasking sessions, the company has implemented a dual 5,000 mAh battery, coupled with a 45W dual DCIC fast charging architecture and a significantly enhanced graphite heat dissipation system.

The multimedia compartment is positioned at the top of the category thanks to a 200 MP main rear sensor paired with a 50 MP ultra-wide that features macro functionality and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom; 8K video recording with the APV codec and color profile management via Cine LUT are also included.

Galaxy Z Fold8: the big news! The new 'passport' format

If the Ultra version caters to the most demanding professional user, the Galaxy Z Fold8 focuses entirely on redefining everyday ergonomics, tipping the balance at just 201 grams, making it the lightest Fold in the brand's history.

The design has been redesigned based on the display proportions: the external 5.5-inch screen adopts a 10:16 format designed to make quick interaction with one hand for messaging and social media completely natural, while the internal foldable 7.6-inch display (in 4:35 format) ensures an immersive viewing area ideal for both gaming and document reading, simply rotating the device.

The Flex Titanium technology, thanks to the use of a film and a titanium alloy plate, significantly reduces the tactile and visual perception of the crease. On the performance side, we find the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, paired with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and a 4.800 mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

The rear camera module relies on a dual 50 MP sensor (main ultra-wide with OIS and ultra-wide), complemented by advanced software functionalities such as Dual Recording to capture simultaneously from both sides and My FanCam for automatic subject tracking in videos intended for social platforms.

Galaxy Z Flip8: compact, trendy and focused on quick interactions with AI

Completing the new lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip8, the clamshell interpretation of the Z series that further refines its portability while remaining attentive to personal expressiveness.

With a thickness of just 6.1 mm when open and an overall weight of 180 grams, Flip8 integrates a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow panel at 120 Hz, designed to allow immediate access to applications, widgets, and AI functionalities without necessarily having to open the smartphone. Inside, there is a flexible Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen of 6.9 inches FHD+ with adaptive frequency up to 120 Hz.

The hardware platform relies on the proprietary SoC Exynos 2600, supported by 12 GB of RAM and an integrated 4,300 mAh battery with support for 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. The photographic experience leans on a 50 MP main camera with ProVisual Engine accompanied by a 12 MP ultra-wide. Leveraging Flex Mode, the device transforms into a pocket camcorder thanks to the Camcorder Grip with Zoom Rocker and stabilizer with horizon lock, while software features such as Mirror View and Custom Capture enhance the use of the external display for high-quality selfies.

Galaxy AI and One UI 9: AI becomes proactive and transparent

The unifying element of the entire Galaxy Z8 offering is represented by software evolution. The new One UI 9.0 interface, based on Android 17, integrates advanced artificial intelligence functions designed to take advantage of the multitasking nature of foldable displays. Tools such as Now Brief and Now Nudge locally analyze user habits and the context of conversations to automatically suggest subsequent actions (like adding appointments to a calendar, searching for places, or saving locations). Thanks to a strategic partnership with Google, Gemini Intelligence enables cross-app automation across over 40 services via natural or contextual commands.

Also debuting is Gemini Notebook, a persistent workspace that allows users to drag notes, files, images, and recordings into Split View to instantly generate reports, infographics, and audio summaries. Security remains managed at both hardware and software levels by Samsung Knox and the Personal Data Engine, while the new AI Assistant Activity dashboard centralizes all operations performed in the background by intelligent agents in one place.
