Amazon Greenlights RoboCop TV Series: First Season of 8 Episodes Confirmed

Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the production of a new TV series dedicated to RoboCop, giving the green light for a first season consisting of eight episodes. Following speculation about the development of a pilot episode, the project has now received approval to become a full series.

Leading the adaptation will be Peter Ocko, a writer and television producer with a long history. Throughout his career, he has collaborated on acclaimed series such as The Office, Pushing Daisies, and The Leftovers, as well as serving as showrunner on the cult series Lodge 49.

Among the main producers is also James Wan, known for creating the Saw franchise and directing the films dedicated to Aquaman. The project will also feature the involvement of Ed Neumeier, co-writer of the original 1987 film directed by Paul Verhoeven, who will be involved as an executive producer.

Commenting on the initiative, James Wan emphasized how the film made by Verhoeven was extremely innovative for its time, tackling themes related to technology, identity, and the role of large corporations in society. According to the producer, these reflections remain particularly relevant today.

A curious coincidence concerns the main antagonist in the '87 film, the fictional multinational Omni Consumer Products (OCP), a gigantic corporation with interests spanning numerous technological and industrial sectors. This description might remind one, at least in part, of some contemporary tech giants, including Amazon itself.

For now, Amazon MGM Studios has not disclosed the names of the actors who will participate in the production, nor has it announced a release window for the series. Nearly forty years after the first film hit theaters, RoboCop remains one of the most recognizable franchises in science fiction. More recently, the brand has also returned to the world of video games with RoboCop: Rogue City.
