The project, titled Nightborne, runs for about 13 minutes and was released on YouTube on July 19. The film represents the first work of Barley Studios, a new entity founded by Blomkamp dedicated to AI-based filmmaking.

According to the director, the entire short was generated using Seedance 2.0, while the creative direction was managed through instructions provided to the system. The story follows a U.S. army pilot who is severely injured after the downing of her aircraft during a mission in Syria. The protagonist becomes involved in a secret program called "Nightborne", where a control implant is inserted into her brainstem, transforming her into a sort of mindless soldier, driven by the orders of the U.S. government.
