100% Renewable Gasoline: BMW, Toyota, Bosch, and Repsol Launch Test in Spain
BMW, Toyota, Bosch, and Repsol have launched a pilot project in Spain aimed at verifying, under everyday usage conditions, the effectiveness of 100% renewable gasoline as a solution to reduce road transportation emissions. The initiative, started in July 2026, will last six months and involve a fleet of about twenty vehicles from BMW and Toyota.
The cars used will exclusively utilize Nexa 95, the renewable fuel developed by Repsol, while Bosch will provide its digital system Digital Fuel Twin, designed to monitor and certify the entire fuel usage cycle. The platform will collect information from vehicles, service stations, and refueling transactions, ensuring complete and transparent traceability.
The project aims to demonstrate that renewable fuels can be immediately adopted without modifying existing vehicles or establishing new distribution infrastructures. In fact, Nexa 95 gasoline is compatible with current gasoline engines and can be distributed through the existing refueling network in the area. Repsol is currently the only company offering fully renewable gasoline at public service stations in Spain.
100% Renewable Gasoline: A Bet or a Solid Future Reality?
The initiative focuses on three main aspects: verifying the commercial availability of the renewable fuel, validating digital certification technologies, and demonstrating the possibility of managing fleets powered exclusively by sustainable fuels.
According to BMW, the project will allow the collection of valuable data to develop future increasingly efficient mobility solutions. Bosch highlights how digital certification can enhance transparency across the entire supply chain, creating the necessary conditions for wider adoption of renewable fuels. Toyota and Repsol emphasize that this technology complements electrification, providing an immediately applicable solution for the existing vast car fleet.
The data collected during the trial will be shared with European institutions, industry operators, and other stakeholders, contributing to the debate on future community policies for decarbonization and the principle of technological neutrality in the energy transition.
