Discovering New Materials with AI to Change the Future: Here's Why Bezos and Others Are Investing in CuspAI

Jeff Bezos has decided to invest in CuspAI, a British startup that leverages artificial intelligence to accelerate the discovery of new materials. The company announced a new collaboration with NVIDIA and other key players in the industry with the goal of developing innovative solutions for the semiconductor, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

CuspAI has completed a funding round of $450 million, reaching a total valuation of $2.6 billion. The round was led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA, with significant participation from Bezos Expeditions, the personal investment fund of the Amazon founder. New investors also include Glade Brook Capital Partners, Lux Capital, AMD Ventures, and the British Sovereign AI Venture Fund.

The technology developed by CuspAI uses AI models to simulate the behavior of yet-to-be-explored materials, reducing the number of possibilities to analyze in laboratories. According to the company, many major technological advancements hinge on the availability of completely new materials, which are necessary to tackle challenges such as more efficient semiconductors, carbon capture systems, and technologies for more sustainable resource management.

Bezos Looks to the Future with CuspAI

The company is part of a new generation of entities trying to apply artificial intelligence not just to the digital sector, but also to the design and production of physical objects and infrastructures. Bezos, through his company Prometheus, founded in 2025, is also investing in the development of AI tools dedicated to invention and engineering.

CuspAI is also expanding its international presence with a new office in Singapore and teams distributed across the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and the United States. The company's main project is the AI Materials Foundry, a network that combines data, labs, computing power, and scientific expertise through CuspAI's proprietary platform.

NVIDIA will provide computing infrastructure within the initiative, which will also involve 45 organizations and the Fundamental AI Research team from Meta. According to CuspAI, this collaboration could help in creating new materials capable of opening up new possibilities in the fields of chips, energy, and technology manufacturing.
