Less than 90 Days Until the End of Updates for Various Versions of Windows 10, 11, and Server 2022

Microsoft Reminder

Microsoft has issued a reminder to inform users that many of its operating systems will soon reach the end of updates, either partial or complete, in less than 90 days. Various versions of Windows 10 and 11, along with Windows Server 2022, will see the end of updates on October 13, 2026.

End of Updates for Many Versions of Windows

The reminder from Microsoft tells users and system administrators that the date is approaching when certain versions of Windows will stop receiving feature updates or will reach the end of their lifecycle. Windows 11 24H2 (in Home and Pro variants) and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 will reach the complete end of support and will no longer receive further updates. Microsoft recommends updating Windows 11 to version 25H2; in the case of the Enterprise and Education versions, support for 24H2 will remain until October 2027, and only after this date will it be necessary to upgrade to the new version. Regarding Windows 10 LTSB 2016, it is advised to switch to Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024; however, in this latter case, joining the ESU (Extended Security Updates) program for additional support may also be an option, for which there is a charge for each affected installation. This option may be the only one in certain cases where drivers are incompatible with Windows 11 or a new image is not available from the device manufacturer.

In the case of Windows Server 2022, October 13 will mark the end of 'mainstream' support, meaning that the operating system will continue to evolve and receive new features; however, for the next five years, until October 2031, the operating system will continue to receive monthly security updates for free. Microsoft states that the latest long-term support version is Windows Server 2025 and recommends upgrading to this version to continue receiving new features.

Maintaining devices is now an absolute priority and an inevitable reality, given the frequency with which new vulnerabilities are found thanks to AI tools. The compromise of devices remains one of the main ways in which criminals can install ransomware or infiltrate corporate networks to steal information.
