75% of PS3 Catalog Now Playable on PC with RPCS3
The renowned open-source emulator for PlayStation 3, RPCS3, has announced a historic milestone for video game preservation: over 75% of the entire PS3 library is now fully compatible and playable on PC (Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD). Here are all the details regarding this achievement.
Constantly Growing Support
Specifically, 2,681 titles out of a total of 3,559 are classified as "playable," meaning they can be completed from start to finish without serious bugs or drastic performance drops. This is a remarkable achievement that comes at a time when Sony is preparing to say goodbye to disc-based games (in 2028) and to close the store for PS3 and PS Vita (in July 2027).
The constant development of RPCS3, which has meanwhile declared war on AI, is proving vital for saving thousands of titles from digital oblivion that would risk disappearing once the original consoles cease to function. The project will allow for the preservation and survival of the PS3 game catalog, especially concerning titles that haven't been released on other platforms. RPCS3 can provide similar (and in some cases even better) performance, and for many users, it could represent a simple way to continue accessing these titles.
The program will be monitored over the coming months. RPCS3 is expected to record further growth in support for games on Sony's console, aiming to get ever closer to 100% of the catalog. Additional updates on the matter will come in the near future.
