Starlink Improves Again: The New Generation of the Home Dish is Smaller and More Efficient
Starlink improves again, entering a new phase with the debut of the fifth generation of its home dish, which promises enhancements in efficiency, reliability, and operational sustainability, with more compact dimensions.
Starlink V5 represents a substantial upgrade for SpaceX's satellite connectivity service, featuring several hardware innovations.
A Fundamental Step Forward
As announced by the company, the redesign results in increased lightness and compact dimensions, with optimization of internal components, thanks to meticulous work on the electronics. The reduction in mass simplifies installation while providing several other advantages.
In particular, Starlink V5 is a central element of the satellite infrastructure renewal project. The greater construction simplicity, along with reduced weight and dimensions, are factors that can make a difference. The new model is significantly smaller, weighing approximately 1.1 kg instead of 2.9 kg, and measuring only 13 x 30.6 x 3.4 cm compared to 59.4 x 38.4 x 3.8 cm of version V4.
The improvement in power supply systems and energy management should not be underestimated (power consumption drops from 75-100 W to just 35-50 W), along with an enhancement of the hardware for data traffic management. These are many small pieces that, when put together, could represent a substantial qualitative leap for Starlink.
V5 is not designed for use in motion and will be sold bundled with the Mini Router, including an adapter for roof installation. Initially, V5 will be available only in select areas.
