MacBook Neo, shipments down in the coming months: is the A18 Pro chip to blame?

The MacBook Neo has recorded excellent results in the first weeks of availability on the market. However, Apple now has to deal with some issues that could lead to a drastic decline in shipments over the coming months, as confirmed by a new report. This marks a significant slowdown for the company’s notebook from Cupertino, which is already looking towards the next generation of its Neo.

Shipments down for the MacBook Neo?

At the root of the problems with the MacBook Neo are the reduced stock of the A18 Pro chip. The Cupertino company had expected about 10 million units for its entry-level notebook (considering the entire lifecycle, which lasts at least a year). The market impact has been very positive, with many requests leading to a rapid depletion of available stock. According to the latest estimates, the total production should be around 6-7 million units by the end of 2026.

For this reason, Apple might accelerate the development of the second generation, which will rely on the A19 Pro chip and 12 GB of unified memory. At the moment, it is unclear whether the MacBook Neo 2 will arrive at the same price as the first generation.

It is worth noting that the MacBook Neo also has to deal with the price increase, with a €100 hike that has made the laptop significantly less attractive compared to its launch. This increase is linked to the memory crisis that has forced Apple to cope with a substantial rise in component prices.
