Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Success Is Not Enough as Dozens of Developers Are Laid Off

After a difficult period, Ubisoft is enjoying the success of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. The remake of the fourth chapter of the Assassin's Creed series is indeed recording excellent results and could represent a moment of revival for both the software company and the franchise. In the meantime, however, several developers who worked on the project have been laid off, despite the record numbers of the remake.

Success Is Not Enough

Ubisoft has laid off dozens of developers from Ubisoft Barcelona, the studio that created all the underwater levels of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a title that has already sold 2 million copies. In total, the layoffs are expected to involve 51 employees. Confirmation came from Manel Cota, Tech and Gameplay Animator at Ubisoft Barcelona, who posted a message on X confirming the game studio's decision:

Thanks! Ubisoft Barcelona did all the underwater levels. And that same team is being fired right now because Ubisoft thinks that's what we deserve :) Link

For Ubisoft, therefore, the layoffs continue without regard for the hard work accomplished. The company aims to cut costs further. The success of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, which certainly boosts the company's finances, does not change its plans. Even developers from Ubisoft Barcelona, who contributed to one of the most appreciated aspects of the title, have been affected by the new wave of layoffs.

Looking to the near future, Ubisoft is expected to continue with layoffs, progressively reducing the costs of its operations, even at the cost of sacrificing talents who have successfully worked on projects such as Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
