UnipolMove Becomes More Expensive: Monthly Fee Increase for the Alternative to Telepass
UnipolMove has notified its more than 2 million customers via email of an increase in the monthly fee that will take effect from September 28, 2026. The service, UnipolSai's alternative to Telepass for paying highway tolls and other mobility services, has revised its Terms and Conditions by leveraging Article 17 of the contract, which governs changes to contractual terms.
The main change concerns the fee for the first device, which will rise to €2.50 per month from the indicated date. However, the cost of an additional second device activated on the same profile will remain unchanged at €1 per month. Those who still have remaining free months associated with their activation offer will continue to benefit from them without interruption until they are exhausted.
What Changes in UnipolMove's Contractual Conditions
The new economic conditions, effective from September 28, 2026, will no longer be found within Article 10 of the General Terms and Conditions but will instead be directly accessible in the Reserved Area for each user. UnipolMove also specifies that anyone who requests a change of offer in the future will be charged the current fee at the time of the request, rather than the originally signed fee.
In the communication, the company attached both a summary of the changes and the updated text of the Terms and Conditions, inviting customers to keep both documents as an integral part of the contractual relationship. Those who do not agree with the new conditions can still terminate at any time without penalties, directly from the UnipolMove app (path: Profile, then Documents, then Signed Contracts) or from the Reserved Area via browser.
The increase in UnipolMove comes about two years after a similar operation by Telepass, which more than doubled the cost of its basic subscription, now at €3.90 per month. Therefore, the two main Italian operators for electronic toll payment are moving in the same direction, that of higher monthly fees to finance the expansion of their respective service ecosystems. Many had preferred UnipolMove over Telepass precisely because of the latter's price hike.
In the case of UnipolMove, launched on the market in 2022, the offer has indeed expanded over the years: over 300 partnered parking facilities, access to Area C in Milan, ferry service across the Strait of Messina, and more than 20 highway agreements that provide discounts of up to 100% on tolls. The app, for its part, has added features such as parking in blue stripes in over 500 municipalities, roadside assistance, car tax payment, taxi booking, and glass repair.
However, it remains to be seen whether the expansion of ancillary services will be sufficient to justify, in the eyes of users, an increase that does affect their monthly fixed expenses.
