Firefox Takes a New Direction: Updates Every Two Weeks for Firefox Desktop and Android
Mozilla has confirmed an important change for Firefox, which, in the near future, will adopt a faster update cycle aimed at enhancing support for users, particularly regarding security.
An Update Every Two Weeks
Mozilla's choice is clear: Firefox will align with the same update schedule as Chrome and Edge. Both the desktop and Android versions of the browser will shift from a monthly update to an update every two weeks.
This change will be introduced with Firefox 155, scheduled for September 1, 2026, instead of September 15 of the same month. The last monthly update will arrive on August 18 with Firefox 154.
Switching to the new update scheme will not force developers to rush. Updates will focus exclusively on features that are already ready for use.
For now, as clarified by Mozilla, this will be an experiment that will test the browser's update mechanism over the coming months to evaluate the feasibility of switching to a bi-weekly update program.
Adopting such a system offers several advantages, improving support for users. New features that are completed shortly after the release of a new version will not have to wait an entire month to be released. Once established, this system is expected to allow Firefox to improve more rapidly. We'll see how the new experiment goes and whether Mozilla will maintain a schedule of two updates per month.
