ChatGPT Returns to WhatsApp Across Europe

ChatGPT is once again available on WhatsApp throughout the EU, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The announcement came today directly from OpenAI, which had to interrupt the service last January due to changes in the terms of use of Meta's platform, which aimed to promote the use of Meta AI. The return of ChatGPT is linked to the intervention of the EU Commission.

The AI chatbot is available on WhatsApp without the need to have the ChatGPT app; it is now possible to "chat" with the chatbot directly via WhatsApp, even without having an account with OpenAI's service.

To start a conversation with the chatbot, simply message the verified contact 1-800-CHATGPT at the number +1-800-242-8478. Users have the ability to upload images, send voice messages, create images, and use ChatGPT in various languages.

Additionally, it is possible to activate a link with your own ChatGPT account. This will allow for greater usage limits. The availability of the service is tied to the international dialing code associated with the number you registered with on WhatsApp.

OpenAI has specified that the rollout of the service is in progress. Consequently, within a few days, all European users will have the opportunity to use the service via WhatsApp. It is also important to remember that ChatGPT is available through Viber and Kakao, two other messaging services that are quite popular in certain countries.

Emmanuel Marill, VP and Managing Director EMEA of OpenAI, stated: "Artificial intelligence is most useful when people can access it wherever they want and whenever they want. Bringing ChatGPT back to WhatsApp in Europe and Switzerland means providing access and choice, giving people the freedom to use the AI tools that best meet their needs on their preferred platforms. We are excited to make this highly valued service available again."
