Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Agent 64: Spies Never Die, the PC shooter inspired by the acclaimed action games developed by Rare for Nintendo 64, finally has an official release date. The project created by the independent developer Replicant D6 will be available on Steam starting August 11, 2026.

The title originates as a love letter to two great classics of the 1990s, GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, drawing on their first-person shooter style with a spy-themed setting. Instead of the iconic protagonists James Bond and Joanna Dark, the game features a new secret agent named John Walter.

The main mode will offer a campaign consisting of 14 missions, which can be tackled by choosing from three difficulty levels. Players will have to complete tasks typical of covert operations, ranging from shootouts, retrieving confidential information, to rescuing hostages. The entire story can be played both solo and in cooperative mode.

One of the most important aspects for fans of Rare games on Nintendo 64 will be the multiplayer component. Agent 64 will indeed include both local and online matches, aiming to recreate one of the most beloved features of FPS games from that era.

The local mode will allow up to four players to compete in a shared-screen deathmatch style, while online will enable the creation of customized rooms with a maximum of eight participants and eight opponents controlled by artificial intelligence. The game will also include over 70 modifiers dedicated to multiplayer modes, designed to replicate some of the most appreciated rules by fans of classic shooters.

Among these will be variants that profoundly change the way of playing, such as modes with instant eliminations or combat limited to melee attacks. There is also a section called Challenges, where users will face multiplayer missions against groups of computer-controlled opponents, trying to achieve certain scores within a time limit.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die has been in development for several years.
