Data Sovereignty: Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud Arrives in Italy

European regulations regarding privacy, data processing, and data residency are pushing businesses to pay closer attention to where workloads are executed and information is stored. Hyperscalers are also expanding the regional availability of their services. Among these is Oracle, which has recently made available in Italy Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud. This is a managed service that allows Oracle database infrastructure (including Oracle Exadata and Autonomous Database) to run directly within Google's Cloud data centers. It combines Oracle's mission-critical systems with Google Cloud's artificial intelligence and analytics capabilities, such as Vertex AI and Gemini, enabling businesses to use Oracle data within native Google Cloud services without managing separate infrastructures.

Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud Lands in Italy

Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud is now available in the Google Cloud Region of Milan. Italian companies can utilize Oracle databases on Google Cloud’s infrastructure, maintaining data and workloads within the Italian region. The local availability can be particularly beneficial for businesses subject to data residency requirements, regulatory compliance, or internal policies on information management. The service offers Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Oracle Autonomous AI Database, and Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, directly integrated into the Google Cloud environment.

The goal of the multicloud offering is to allow businesses to use Oracle's database services along with Google’s analytics and artificial intelligence tools without having to build and manage connections between separate infrastructures.

Migration of Oracle Databases with Limited Changes

Companies can transfer their Oracle workloads performed in their own data centers to Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud, maintaining compatibility with existing applications and architectures. According to Oracle, migration requires limited changes and preserves the features and performance characteristics of existing database services. This approach can reduce the complexity of modernization projects. Organizations do not necessarily need to rewrite the applications that utilize Oracle Database but can move them to the cloud environment and connect them to Google Cloud's native services.

The platform uses low-latency connectivity between Oracle services and Google Cloud. Data stored in Oracle databases can therefore be used by BigQuery, Gemini models, and Gemini Enterprise Agent without needing to set up dedicated interconnection infrastructures between the two clouds. Companies can, for example, integrate information from their management systems with data from other sources, perform analysis through BigQuery, or use Google’s models to develop AI-based applications.

The Oracle AI Database Agent also allows Gemini Enterprise users to query data governed by Oracle using natural language. The system can generate contextualized responses without requiring direct SQL query writing and without needing to pre-transfer data to another platform. Thus, Oracle databases can be linked to workflows based on agents and language models while maintaining the security controls, access, and governance already applied to business information.

Direct Purchase or Through Partners

Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud can be purchased through the Google Cloud Marketplace. In this way, the expense for the service can be included in commercial agreements and consumption commitments already signed with Google Cloud. The service can also be purchased and resold by qualified Oracle and Google Cloud partners. Channel operators can integrate it into their migration, infrastructure management, and application development projects, offering the customer a single contract for services and implementation activities. This method is intended to simplify procurement in organizations that prefer to entrust project management to a system integrator or a vendor already present within the enterprise infrastructure. As an additional option, Oracle customers can also use Oracle Multicloud Universal Credits.

"The availability of Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud in Italy responds to the growing demand from Italian organizations, which want to modernize mission-critical workloads while accelerating AI innovation," comments Andrea Sinopoli, Country Leader Italy for Oracle. "They can now migrate Oracle database workloads with minimal impact and integrate them with Google Cloud's analytics and AI services to generate new value for the business."

"By combining Oracle's leadership in database technology with Google Cloud's secure infrastructure and advanced AI, we empower organizations throughout Italy to accelerate IT modernization," states Raffaele Gigantino, Country Manager Italy for Google Cloud. "Bringing Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud to our Milan region enables customers to securely leverage the full potential of their enterprise data while adhering to data residency requirements."
