Ricoh Celebrates 30 Years of GR: A Special GR IV in 6,000 Copies
Ricoh has announced a special version of the GR IV to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the GR series, which began in October 1996 with the compact film camera GR1. The GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition, a provisional name, will arrive in autumn 2026 in a limited edition of 6,000 copies for the entire global market, with the price yet to be announced.
Those looking for a technical leap will be disappointed: the specifications remain identical to those of the standard GR IV, released in September 2025. The differences are purely aesthetic and related to accessories. The shutter button and the rear buttons feature a paint finish inspired by the original GR1, while around the lens appears a dedicated ring, the GN-3 (30th), with a diamond finish and factory-mounted. Upon turning off, the camera displays a screen with the graphics of the thirtieth anniversary.
Commemorative Accessories and Separate Sales
In the package, Ricoh includes a metallic cover for the accessory hot shoe, the GK-2 (30th), a finger strap GS-4 (30th), and a set of badges inspired by the models that have succeeded each other throughout the series' history. All accessories feature the graphics celebrating thirty years.
The metallic cover and the strap will also be sold separately. There is also a cover for the hot shoe, the GK-1 (30th), designed for the GR III and GR IIIx, so that those who own the earlier models can also add a commemorative piece.
This initiative is part of the campaign "Forever a Snapshooter" with which Ricoh accompanies the anniversary: the company is preparing commemorative items and, starting this autumn, events for enthusiasts in various parts of the world. "The essential values of the GR, dedication to high image quality, responsiveness, and portability, and the determination to remain the ultimate compact for snapshots, have been passed down unchanged to current models," stated the Japanese company.
Final pricing and sales information, says Ricoh, will arrive close to the debut, expected generally "around autumn."
