Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Surprise Release on PS4 and PS5, But Players Are Not Happy

Activision has made available without any official announcement Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The arrival of the two titles was discovered directly by users, as the release happened without promotional campaigns or dedicated presentations.

However, the initial surprise quickly gave way to discussions, especially after analyzing the features included in these new versions. According to the available information, the games do not introduce specific graphical improvements or significant optimizations compared to the original editions. One of the most criticized aspects is the absence of dedicated servers, a choice that could affect the quality of online matches, especially in the presence of unstable connections or latency issues.

From a technical point of view, the news also seems limited. Several reports indicate that the 60 frames per second framerate is not consistently maintained. Additionally, there are no options for 120 Hz displays or settings to alter the field of view (FoV), features now considered standard in many modern shooters.

The information regarding 4K resolution is also unclear, with conflicting testimonies from users. The shared progression system and cross-platform play have limitations: cross-play is indeed only available between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, without extending to other platforms.

Both titles are priced at 40 dollars each. However, PlayStation Plus subscribers can take advantage of a 20 dollar discount valid until August 6, 2026, reducing the purchase cost. The respective Season Passes are also available separately. The standard price is set at 30 dollars, but during the promotional period, PlayStation Plus users can purchase them for 10 dollars. The Season Pass remains essential for accessing all additional maps, an element that has fueled further criticism from the community.
