Phone Numbers Are Changing! If You See This Prefix on Your Display, It’s Calling You...

The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) has updated its official telephone numbering resources archive, introducing new assignments related to the mobile telecommunications sector. The update, published on July 8, 2026, and referring to the situation as of June 30, 2026, includes new prefixes allocated to PosteMobile and Vodafone.

Regarding PosteMobile, the virtual operator managed by PostePay, a company of the Poste Italiane Group, has been assigned the new numbering 3718. The company, which uses the TIM mobile network for new activations with 2G, 4G, 4G+, and 5G services via a dedicated option, thus expands the availability of numbers for future customers. With this assignment, PosteMobile adds another decade to the 371 series, alongside the already available 3711, 3713, 3714, 3715, 3716, and 3717. Therefore, those who activate a new line can also receive a number belonging to the new 3718 series.

Not only PosteMobile, but Vodafone also obtains a new prefix. The MIMIT update also affects Vodafone Italy, a company incorporated into Fastweb since January 1, 2026. After the corporate operation, Vodafone continues to operate in the Italian market as a brand licensed to Fastweb until 2029 and is part of the Fastweb + Vodafone brand, which emerged following the acquisition completed by Swisscom.

For Vodafone, the new decade 3786 has been assigned, which expands the available resources within the 378 prefix. In the past, the operator had already received the 3784 series, assigned in 2022 and indicated as intended for virtual operators that directly use the Vodafone network, and 3785, attributed in December 2025. Although the Ministry did not specify the destination of the new decade 3786, the possibility that it could also be used for virtual operators utilizing the mobile infrastructure currently managed by Fastweb + Vodafone is not excluded.
