The New iPhone 18 and 18e Will Have More RAM but Will Not Support All AI Features of iOS 27

The AI features of iOS 27 will require a lot of RAM. For full support of the entire suite, Apple has chosen to define a minimum requirement of 12 GB of RAM.

As a result, the new iPhone 18 and 18e, despite an increase in RAM compared to the previous generation, will not have access to all the AI-related features of iOS 27.

Apple is making several compromises regarding the introduction of artificial intelligence in its devices. Recently, for example, the company announced a halt in support for several recent Apple Watch models that will not be able to take advantage of certain functionalities of watchOS. A choice that will spark discussion.

The new iPhone 18 and 18e will feature 9 GB of RAM, as confirmed by insider Ming-Chi Kuo. This decision is related to the necessity of ensuring excellent performance in using the Apple Intelligence suite.

However, the increase in memory will not be enough to guarantee full support for the innovations that iOS 27 will bring for iPhones in terms of artificial intelligence. The customization of Siri's expressiveness and vocal pace, along with improvements in voice dictation accuracy, will not be supported. For these two features, at least 12 GB of RAM will be required.

Consequently, to access these functions, one will need an iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max, an iPhone Ultra, or a previous generation model such as the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max or iPhone Air. More details will be available in the coming weeks. It is worth noting that the iPhone 18 and 18e will hit the market only at the beginning of 2027.
