Apple may have suspended the project for AirPods with integrated camera

Among the new products that Apple has been working on for some time are the AirPods Pro with an integrated camera, also referred to online as AirPods Ultra, to emphasize the difference compared to the current Pro product line. According to new rumors, the project has been suspended by the Cupertino company, likely due to the disappointing performance of the AI functions that were supposed to be the core of the project.

Project suspended?

The new AirPods Pro with a camera have long been the center of rumors and speculation. In the past, Apple has filed several patents related to the project, which has been confirmed by several very reliable insiders, such as Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. However, in recent weeks, the situation seems to have changed and the project may have been suspended (but not canceled). The reason for this choice appears to be related to the performance of Visual Intelligence capabilities.

Among the AI functions that Apple is working on is the possibility for Siri to "see" the outside world. With the new AirPods, AI could leverage the cameras to gather information and respond to user requests. The current performance is reportedly unsatisfactory, and thus, the project may have been suspended until there is a substantial improvement in the user experience provided by artificial intelligence, an area in which Apple has not yet achieved its set goals.

Updates on this new product could arrive in the coming weeks. The choice to "suspend" rather than cancel the project represents a confirmation regarding Apple's intentions to eventually launch this variant of AirPods on the market.
