At Least 64 GB of RAM to Play? The Cinder City Case Foreshadows the Future of PC Gaming
Cinder City could become one of the most interesting innovations in the near future for the gaming industry. It is a cooperative PvE open world game. The game, presented last year, is set to arrive in 2026, although a launch date has not yet been confirmed. Recently, the recommended requirements for the game were published on Steam.
The list of specifications included a staggering 64 GB of RAM, a significantly high amount at a time when the memory crisis has driven producers to increase prices, capitalizing on the high demand from the AI industry. NC, the game's publisher, has clarified the situation.
The 64 GB was a mistake
Cinder City will not require 64 GB of RAM. The indication, which had been on Steam for a few days, caused considerable concern among users, as only 3.95% of gamers meet this requirement (according to the latest Steam hardware survey).
The case went viral and prompted NC to reverse course, modifying the recommended requirements, which now include "only" 32 GB of RAM, along with an RTX 4070 and an Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor.
There are no official statements on the matter. We cannot rule out that the 64 GB of RAM was indeed a "recommended" requirement by the developers, but to avoid harming the game commercially, it was decided to reduce the RAM indication to a much more accessible (especially these days) 32 GB. Additionally, it should be noted that 32 GB is also the minimum requirement to play Cinder City.
To play "well" in Cinder City, it may genuinely be necessary to have more than 32 GB of RAM, getting as close as possible to 64 GB. We will know more in the future.
