Corsair Frame 5000D Wood RS: the modular case gets dressed in natural wood

Corsair is once again focusing on its mid-range modular case with a variant that prioritizes aesthetics and a revamped fan section: the Frame 5000D Wood RS. This is not a brand-new product, but rather a reimagining of the Frame 5000D launched in 2025, which retains its structural framework and "modular" philosophy while featuring significantly updated components. The company also sells separately, in addition to the complete case, two new wooden front panels designed for those who already own a Frame 5000D and wish to update its aesthetics.

The Front Panel: FSC Certified Wood

The most immediately recognizable element of the Wood RS is the front panel, made from solid FSC certified wood instead of the classic metal or plastic grille. This choice is not purely aesthetic: the structure with vertical slats, spaced apart, is designed to ensure adequate airflow for the cooling flow intake, thus overcoming one of the most common criticisms aimed at "closed" or excessively decorative fronts. The panel is available in two color combinations: Black/Walnut (black structure with walnut slats) and White/Oak (white structure with light oak slats).

200 mm Fans and Cooling Configuration

The most significant technical innovation concerns the fan section. While the original Frame 5000D used three 140 mm fans at the front, the Wood RS replaces them with two RS200 units, 200 mm fans designed to move a greater volume of air while maintaining lower rotational speeds, theoretically benefiting from reduced noise at equivalent airflows. At the rear, a RS140 fan of 140 mm is used for exhaust. The case is offered in a single fan configuration called "RS," which includes 2x RS200 in the front and 1x RS140 in the back, both PWM type without an included external controller.

The fan mounting system, called InfiniRail, uses adjustable steel rails on both the front and top, allowing for fans and radiators to be moved along tracks rather than on predefined fixed points. The front rail accepts 200, 140, and 120 mm fans, while the top is compatible with 140 and 120 mm sizes. Overall, the frame can accommodate a maximum of 11 120 mm fans or 10 140 mm fans, depending on the user’s configuration choice.

Regarding liquid cooling, the case claims compatibility with radiators up to 420 mm in three distinct locations: front, top, and side, with the capability to install two radiators simultaneously. The rear only supports 120 or 140 mm radiators, while the bottom area and the power supply cover do not support any radiators.

The Glass Side Panel Changes

The second element of discontinuity from the base model is the tempered glass side panel, which now covers the entire side instead of three-quarters, as on the previous version. This modification allows a complete view of the installed hardware and cable management on the back of the motherboard.

Along with the new panel, the power supply cover has been redesigned to be more compact, removing the crossbar and the perforated section in the lower quarter found on the original version, with the stated goal of providing a cleaner interior view through the glass.

Internal Layout and Cable Management

The motherboard tray adopts the RapidRoute 2.0 system, a pegboard-like perforated surface that allows for the removal, rotation, and repositioning of the included ratchet straps for cable management at the back of the case. The frame also features necessary cuts for connector routing on motherboards with rear connectors, claiming compatibility with ASUS BTF, MSI Project Zero, and Gigabyte Project Stealth standards.

For GPU support, an adjustable anti-sag stabilization arm is integrated, intended to support the weight of the graphics card to prevent sagging and reduce stress on the PCIe slot. Other notable equipment includes QuikMount screws with a knurled collar and an inner Phillips profile designed to stay attached to the screwdriver during insertion, limiting accidental drops inside the case during assembly; these screws can also be used as traditional wing screws.

Front Connectivity

The front I/O panel has removed the Type-A USB ports present on the original model in favor of two Type-C ports at 5 Gb/s (USB 3.2 Gen 1) and a third Type-C port at 20 Gb/s (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2), with the latter highlighted by a distinctive yellow color. Completing the setup are the power button and the combined headphone and microphone jack.

Front Panels as Separate Accessories

Alongside the complete case, Corsair has introduced two wooden panels available for separate purchase as accessories for those who already own a Frame 5000D, reinforcing the logic of the FRAME Modular Case System, which includes interchangeable components - front panel, power supply cover, motherboard tray, side panel, and front I/O - allowing users to modify the appearance and performance of the case without having to replace it entirely.

The first one, simply named WOOD Front Panel, corresponds to the panel already mounted by default on the Wood RS: solid FSC wood slats for quick installation. The second, ELITE WOOD Front Panel, features a "wave" finish on the wood surface, designed as a more refined aesthetic variant while maintaining the same airflow principles. Both accessories are available in the same Black/Walnut and White/Oak color combinations as the case and feature quick-install bolted elements.

Pricing and Availability

The Frame 5000D Wood RS, including the two RS200 fans and the RS140, is offered by Corsair at a retail price of €184.90 in Europe. The WOOD panel has an indicative price of $39.99/euro, while the ELITE WOOD variant is priced at around €69.90 depending on the market.

Considerations

The Frame 5000D Wood RS positions itself as a targeted upgrade rather than a radically new product: the frame, the InfiniRail fan mounting system, the pegboard tray, and the dual 420 mm radiator support remain the same as the already available Frame 5000D. Substantial changes pertain to the aesthetics of the front panel, the adoption of 200 mm fans in place of the 140 mm, the full-coverage side panel, and the update of front connectivity to only USB Type-C standard.

The choice to make the wooden panel and its "elite" variant available separately confirms the modular approach of the Frame range, allowing users who already own the base model to update its aesthetics at a lower cost, without the need to replace the entire case. The 5000D Wood RS is suitable for any setting, but with the wooden front finish, it particularly appeals to those seeking a sober and elegant aesthetic: its audience will likely consist mainly of creators looking for a balance between gaming PC and office solution, as well as those with rooms featuring wooden furniture where an overly aggressive gaming case would be out of place.
