Capcom Teases Release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Updates Bonuses, Demo, and Launch Schedule
Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will hit the market sooner than expected. The title will no longer debut on September 25 but will instead be available from September 4 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. This calendar change affects all platforms and represents a significant shift from previously communicated plans.
Along with the new date, the company has revised the purchase incentive system. The bonus initially reserved for pre-orders will be transformed into a bonus for buyers in the first weeks, available until September 24 at 11:59 PM local time on consoles, while on Steam and Epic Games Store, it will remain obtainable until September 25 at 1:59 AM.
Capcom also confirmed the arrival of an update for the already available demo. The update will serve exclusively to align the promotional material with the new release date and will not introduce additional content. Those who have already completed the demo will still receive the expected rewards once they start the full game.
We are delighted to bring Onimusha: Way of the Sword to you earlier on September 4, 2026. ? #Onimusha

In a world of delays, Capcom brings forward the release date of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The announcement follows some rumors that emerged in recent weeks when the Canadian retailer PNP Games indicated September 4 as the shipping date for pre-orders. At that time, however, Capcom reiterated that the launch would remain set for September 25.
The official confirmation came from director Nihei Satoru, who also showcased new gameplay sequences. Among the novelties stands Dohatsu-ten, a new Genma which, according to statements, represents an original creation of the development team and is not derived from traditional Japanese folklore, as has happened in the past in the series.
The advance might influence the release calendar for September. With this choice, Capcom is indeed avoiding a clash with Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall, both scheduled for September 24. On the other hand, the game will arrive just a day after The Blood of Dawnwalker, the new open-world RPG from Rebel Wolves. Was it a smart move for the company? Surely it is for gamers.
