GTA 6, doubts about the 'Performance' mode: achieving 60 fps on consoles could be a tough target
The opening of pre-orders has increased, even further, the attention on GTA 6, which will hit the market in November. The game will be available at launch on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Series S. For the PC version, we will likely have to wait until 2027.
In the meantime, there is a persistent discussion about a "performance" version capable of pushing the title up to 60 fps on all consoles. However, this mode seems unlikely, at least according to Digital Foundry, which considers the target difficult to reach.
Is the CPU up to the task?
The main issue for supporting 60 fps on consoles for GTA 6 might be related to the CPU performance, based on Zen 2 architecture and not being able to optimally manage the frame rate given the game's graphic level.
Even the PS5 Pro may face some challenges, despite having a higher-end GPU, in achieving 60 fps, although the results could be more satisfactory with PSSR 2.0. The PS5 Pro, in any case, is the most powerful console in the group, and thus, has the best chances of reaching the 60 fps target.
This matter will need careful evaluation in the near future. For now, Rockstar has not provided official information regarding support for 60 fps with a dedicated mode. To unlock the game's full potential, players will, in any case, have to wait for the release of the PC version, which will allow enthusiasts to take advantage of a higher graphic level.
