Koei Tecmo announces a new action game called Fuji: it is a new game funded by the Japanese government

Koei Tecmo is developing a new original intellectual property identified by the codename Fuji. The Japanese company, known for major video game series such as Ninja Gaiden, Dynasty Warriors, Nioh, and Dead or Alive, has been included in the IP360 program promoted by the Japanese government to support the creation of new brands in the entertainment sector.

IP360 is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan with the aim of providing funding for projects related to the creation of new intellectual properties. Among the works selected in the category dedicated to large-scale productions are also new titles from other major Japanese developers, including a console game from Konami, a new 3D fighting game from Arc System Works, and a project from Square Enix.

The description of the Koei Tecmo project reveals few details about the game but confirms some key elements. According to reports in the official documentation, Fuji will leverage the studio's expertise in creating visual settings inspired by East Asia and in crafting action experiences. The stated goal is to develop a new IP capable of achieving international success and subsequently being expanded through different media starting from the video game.

Koei Tecmo has a long history of producing titles characterized by Asian historical and cultural influences. In recent years, the company has launched new original series such as Wild Hearts, Rise of the Ronin, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, demonstrating an interest in creating new universes beyond its most recognized franchises.

The studio continues to work on established brands as well. Recently, the sequel to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, titled Wo Long: Wings of Ember, was announced, scheduled for early 2027. The new chapter will take place after the events of the first game and will offer a fantasy version of the historical period of the late Eastern Han dynasty in China. In the new title, players will assume the role of a nameless fighter engaged against human foes and demonic creatures in large battlefields. The combat system will be based on evolved Chinese martial arts, balancing offensive and defensive techniques. At the moment, Koei Tecmo has not provided additional information about Fuji.
