The Future Price of PS6 Worries Players: According to Latest Rumors, the $1,000 Threshold is Approaching
The future price of the PlayStation 6 continues to generate discussions following new leaks related to the production costs of Sony's upcoming console. According to the leaker Kepler_L2, considered a reliable source in the hardware industry, the overall cost of the components for the machine has increased by approximately $200 compared to previous estimates.
Previously, in March, it was speculated that the so-called "bill of materials", the cost of materials needed to produce the console, was around $760. With this value, Sony could have aimed for a final price close to $699 due to a potential reduction in margins. However, the new increase would make this strategy much more difficult, and according to the rumor, a retail price close to $999 cannot be ruled out.
The increase in costs comes at a complicated time for the console market, characterized by rising prices and declining sales. Other manufacturers are also facing similar issues: Xbox, for example, has already reported that memory and storage costs could double in the coming year, potentially impacting future devices.
PS6: Price and Material Crisis, Additional Elements
Despite a potential price increase, Kepler_L2 believes that a delay in the launch may not be the best solution. According to the leaker, if costs continue to rise, postponing the console's arrival could worsen the situation, while if component prices were to stabilize, there would be no real advantage in delaying the debut.
The technical specifications of the PS6, according to this unofficial information, have already been defined for a long time. Therefore, any delay would not bring significant changes to the expected hardware configuration.
In the best-case scenario, the price of the digital-only version of the PS6 could still reach $999. Sony may consider potential subsidies to keep the final price down, but likely would only do so if it is confident of achieving positive economic results in the long term. The Japanese company has previously discussed its investments in the next generation of consoles, confirming the importance of the sector, but without officially announcing either the price or the release date.
