TIM's 5G Covers 6,131 Municipalities: Here's the Map to Check Coverage in Your City | Updated
TIM has made updated data regarding mobile network coverage available on its website, distinguishing between 5G, 4G+, and 4G. The operator has revamped the section dedicated to 5G with a new graphic design and the latest data on the spread of high-performance networks.
The information indicates that TIM's 5G covers 6,131 municipalities. This is a significant number, compared to 4,143 municipalities recorded in September 2024, highlighting a clear acceleration in the expansion of the fifth-generation network. For users with the 5G Ultra profile, TIM promises speeds of up to 2 Gbps in download. The operator's statement is clear: "TIM's 5G network is available in most of Italy. TIM is progressively expanding coverage throughout the territory."
The Spread of TIM's 5G, 4G+, and 4G: An Interactive Map for Accurate Verification
On the 4G front, the operator reaches 1,339 municipalities with speeds of up to 150 Mbps in download. The 4G+ technology, on the other hand, covers 6,500 municipalities, offering performance of up to 700 Mbps in download. Overall, TIM reports a presence of its broadband mobile network in 7,839 Italian municipalities, with outdoor 4G coverage for the national population exceeding 99%. These numbers depict a path long established, focused on the capillary expansion of the infrastructure.
For detailed coverage verification, TIM offers an interactive map which, implemented at the end of August 2023, allows users to check mobile coverage at any point in the national territory by entering an address or selecting a specific area on the map. The system shows which technologies (5G, 4G+, 4G, and 2G) are present in the selected quadrant, also indicating the estimated maximum speeds.
It is important to emphasize that TIM's 3G technology was discontinued throughout Italy in mid-October 2022. The interactive map no longer provides a list of cities covered by 5G but allows for precise verification, useful for users who wish to know the availability of the service in their area of interest.
As of June 9, 2024, TIM offers two distinct speed profiles for 5G, depending on the subscribed plan. The "5G Ultra" profile, included in specific mobile offers, guarantees a maximum download speed of 2 Gbps and 300 Mbps in upload, as stated earlier. The basic "5G" profile, on the other hand, offers maximum speeds limited to 250 Mbps in download and 75 Mbps in upload, and does not include priority access to the network. Currently, TIM’s 5G network operates in Non-Standalone (NSA) mode, relying on existing 4G infrastructure. The Standalone (SA) standard, which will fully leverage the features of 5G, is still in the process of rollout.
