Goodbye package anxiety: Google Wallet tracks your orders and tells you where they are

Google Wallet has implemented a new feature for tracking online orders, currently only in the United States. The update, which follows a recent refresh of the app's homepage for Android, leverages data from Gmail to provide users with an overview of their shipment status, solidifying the platform as a true daily management hub.

This integration allows Wallet to automatically extract crucial details such as complete receipts, specific tracking numbers, and the updated status of each individual package from email messages. On the app's homepage, users will find a dedicated area for "incoming orders soon," strategically positioned next to passes and digital cards.

By tapping the central "View more" button within the app, users can access a broader and more detailed list of all orders. At the top of this screen, Wallet highlights purchases in transit or scheduled for delivery that day, ensuring that the most urgent information is immediately visible. For an even more comprehensive and organized view, there is an additional section called "View more transactions > Orders," which collects all monitored purchases, offering a clear historical traceability.

Order Tracking on Google Wallet: Activation and Limitations

To view specific details of a package, such as the complete itinerary and real-time updates provided by the courier, simply select the desired order within Wallet. The app will present all available tracking information, eliminating the need to switch between different applications or websites. Users also have the option to remove an order from their Wallet list via the trash can icon on that page; it is important to clarify that this action does not delete the email or the order from Gmail, but only its disappearance from the digital wallet interface.

Activating this feature requires a simple step in Gmail settings. It is necessary to ensure that under "Gmail > Settings > email account > Google Workspace smart features" the option "Smart features in other Google products" is properly enabled. Without this explicit consent, Wallet will not be able to access the necessary data for tracking.

Currently, the availability of this integration is exclusively limited to the United States. Google has specified that the service supports a "large number of major American merchants." However, orders from smaller retailers or, especially, from non-U.S. merchants may not be displayed in the app, a necessary compromise that limits the functionality’s usefulness outside the primary market. Despite a detailed support article already being published by the company, the feature does not yet appear to be fully active on all verified accounts, suggesting a gradual rollout.
