Meta Launches Adventurer and Fury: Two More Affordable Eyewear Models

Meta has announced for the first time a line of smart glasses marketed directly under its own brand, introducing the Adventurer and Fury models at a price of $299. This initiative represents a significant shift in the company's strategy, which until now had entrusted the distribution of its smart glasses exclusively to the Ray-Ban brand through a collaboration with EssilorLuxottica.

The new devices maintain very similar technical features to those of the current second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses, but are offered at a lower price due to the absence of the Ray-Ban brand and the associated licensing costs. Alongside the standard models, Starfire also debuts, a version developed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner, priced at $399 and characterized by a more distinctive frame design.

From a hardware perspective, all three models share the same platform. The glasses integrate a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, record video in 3K quality, and are equipped with a system consisting of five dedicated microphones for calls and voice commands. The claimed battery life exceeds eight hours of mixed use, while the charging case allows for approximately 40 total hours.

Additional Details on This New Range of Meta Glasses

The new range also supports 26 different combinations of frames and lenses. Features based on artificial intelligence are powered by Muse Spark, Meta's new AI model developed for wearable devices. The system can manage voice requests, recognize objects framed by the camera, and provide real-time translations in 20 languages. Future updates are expected to include pedestrian navigation with step-by-step voice directions.

Meta's strategy is markedly different from that adopted by Snap with its Specs, launched at over $2,000. While Snap focuses on advanced augmented reality features, Meta seems to favor a more accessible approach geared towards the general public.

According to cited data, Meta and EssilorLuxottica control about 82% of the global smart glasses market. The new line thus creates a dual commercial offering: on one hand, the Ray-Ban Meta, positioned in the premium segment due to brand value, and on the other, the Meta Glasses, designed for those who want the same technology at a more affordable price.
