Samsung Unveils UFS 5.0 with Speeds Up to 10.8 GB/s and More Than Double the Performance
Samsung has announced the new generation of UFS 5.0 memory, a solution designed to significantly enhance the performance of mobile devices and promote the evolution of AI-based applications running directly on the device.
According to the company, the new standard incorporates the latest JEDEC specifications for embedded memory and achieves a bandwidth of up to 10.8 GB/s, a figure that represents one of the highest levels available in the industry.
The declared performance includes sequential read speeds of up to 10.8 GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 9.5 GB/s. Samsung emphasizes that these results exceed those achievable with the previous UFS 4.1 standard by more than two times. Additionally, the performance reached is close to that of some modern DRAM memory solutions, enabling faster management of large amounts of data.
One of the main goals of the new technology is to improve the capabilities of AI models executed locally on smartphones. With the increased bandwidth, devices will be able to process broader contexts and handle complex workloads more efficiently, without constantly relying on cloud services.
UFS 5.0 Compatible Chips
In addition to the performance boost, Samsung also highlights an improvement in energy efficiency. The new UFS 5.0 memory is expected to consume about 40% less than the previous generation. This achievement has been made possible through the introduction of new technologies dedicated to power management and reducing energy waste.
The design has also been optimized. The new module measures 7.5 x 13 x 0.9 millimeters, making it approximately 16.7% more compact than the previous model. This feature allows manufacturers to integrate the memory into increasingly thin and complex devices. Mass production of versions with capacities up to 1 TB is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, some rumors suggest that future processors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will support the new storage standard. According to the same information, upcoming platforms such as MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro and Samsung Exynos 2700 may also be compatible with UFS 5.0 technology.
